what was your first car, and what happened to it? my dad's first car was a dodge colt. one rainy day, he was driving to work. he saw a big puddle in front of him. he headed for it. it turned out to be a waist deep sinkhole filled with water. the thing is, he's six feet tall! the poor car only lasted eight years.

First on-the-road car (field cars don't count) was a 1959 Anglia Prefect I paid $70 for. Flat four and girls thought it was cute.

This is one of those discussions where you're going to see how GRM appeals to people of all ages...

Mine was a 1961 Pontiac Catalina. You mentioned your dad's first car...my dad's first car was a 1919 Model T Ford; he bought it when he was a high school senior in 1929.

I had a 1988 Honda Accord as a first car. Was given to me by my parents when they bought a new car because they wouldn't give anything on trade in for it. I ended up parting that car out after I found out the crash damage from a previous crash was worse than I thought. My second car was another 1988 Accord. I currently have 2 more 3rd gen Accords, one I'm going to daily drive after I finish fixing it, and one is going to be a challenge car.

1956 VW convertible. Sold it to the ex-pilot that few the plane for the company my father worked for. He spent $10 getting the generator fixed and he drove it for over 10,00 miles with nothing except gas and oil. He later sold it to a VW collector in the Virginia area. Gulf Oil called to see if he was still alive. His DDs before that was a big Caddie and 1968 427 three duece Corvette.

My first car was a 1975 Chevy Nova I bought a year before I got my license in 2002. 262 ci V8! 110 hp in that beast. It was avocado green with a white oxidized roof.

Found a picture, I added the Camaro Rallye wheels.

When I was 15 (1985) I bought a 66 Chevelle that had been the subject of a few half hearted restorations. It was a complete rat, but the 283 ran. (and smoked like a mosquito fogger)

I paid $350 (including patch panels) and drove it home. Upon seeing it, my Mom cried and forced me to call the PO and ask if he would take it back. Of course he didn't want it back, and I really didn't push him as I was so psyched to have my bitchin hot rod!

Over a gallon of bondo, and an Earl Scheib paint job later it was still a horrible POS.....but it was all mine! I ended up selling it to a buddy who said he was going to turn it into a helicopter.........don't think that ever happened. I'm sure by now it has returned to the earth.

Still remember the smell of that car......like mildew/ bondo/ electrical fire all in one!

'60 Pontiac Catalina with no floor under the drivers seat and a 389 that would go near 120 mph. Good God, how young and dumb was I back in 1970. That beast had drum brakes all around and weighed 4000 pounds.

Paid $50 and traded it for a TR-3 with a broken crank.

My first car was a 1984 GMC S-15 Jimmy.

WORST CAR EVER!

But perfect for a teen. It had no power and I gained a lot of experience in working on cars.

When I got it, the trans only had three working gears (first, second, reverse). After fixing the trans I got the great joy of rebuilding the anemic 2.8L v-6. Over the period of a year or so I had chances to fix numerous “little” things the were constantly going wrong.

I crashed it but I did not kill it, I spent the better part of a summer using body working tools and bondo to fix the damage I had wrought upon the vehicle or to at least get it road worthy again.

Finally sold it off to a nice older Hispanic couple when the wife got pregnant (it was a 2 door and not practical for a family)

The car did come back to haunt me. That nice older Hispanic couple were apparently illegal immigrants and were unable to register the car in their name. As a result when the guy got busted for a driving without a license the Salinas police department gave me a call saying that they had “my” car. Thank god I had a release of liability on file with the DMV, it was really useful when the dammed collection agency called and tried to browbeat me into paying the impound fees.

That car caused me to swear off automatic transmissions and GM products forever. however I am starting to soften my anti-GM stance of late.
