Gettin' itchy for another car on my get list. While I absolutely love my '09 E92 w/ 60K w/ up to date maintenance including dreaded water pump can't help but look... grass is always greener, huh.

Stumbled across a '14 Charger RT AWD w/ 13+K nicely equipped that caught my eye. Black on black is sinister. Heated seats, Bluetoof, Sat radio, Beats stereo plus a lotta options they prolly left out considering. Oh yea, the Hemi thing. RT RWD was on my get list but wondering about the AWD, '14 being the last year offered.

Planned on keeping the E92 to 100K or more and doing the usual maintenance that goes w/ it, upgrading suspension while at it, pretty much a keeper this car is.

Very brief look at reviews were mixed for the AWD Chargers, the SXT 3.6L being worst, Hemi owners liked them better FWIW. Various complaints from electronics to trans problems. Not very familiar w/ the Dodge AWD system at all but dig it on the E92 fwiw.

No problem staying the course w/ the E92 but is the RT AWD something to take a look at? While I'm hooked on twin turbos there is that Hemi thing.

Is it the 8 speed auto in the charger? If so, i like it in my awd Grand cherokee.

In reply to RossD:

Hemi gets the 5-speed, SXT 3.6L gets the 8-speed afik

You're grounded from the Internet. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200.

Go in the corner and say 92 Hail Mary's to attempt to atone for the sin of comparing one of the great combinations of luxury, speed and awesomesauce to a berkeleying Dodge.

But seriously, I can't possibly understand why this is even a question.

I've heard that the AWD systems in the Charger/300 are not great and are troublesome. Plus, smoky, tail-happy burnouts aren't happening with AWD without breaking stuff.

I'd wait for a '15 with the 8-speed transmission to fall into range and drive your E92 a bit more if you really want a Charger.

Someone I work with had one of those as a rental the other day. I rode in it briefly and thought to myself: "I'm not sure if 700hp can fix this car."

Well, I like the Charger and I did cross-shop it with the E90. It's a very different car, obviously. Much bigger and more relaxed. To me it's more comfortable, and Dodge reliability aside, it's likely to cost you less in maintenance down the road. So it has it's virtues.

But I agree with holding out for the 2015-up with the ZF 8-speed. But you don't get AWD with those. How important is that to you?

I've driven enough rental chargers. They aren't bad. In fact to like them a lot. Sporty handling, nope. Big power, maybe. Interior is ok. But it's just a huge car that weighs over 2 tons and that weight is not easily controlled from the factory.

I liked my dad's 2010 R/T AWD Hemi, but I've never road in a newish BMW.

Didn't drive the AWD version, but I'm quite fond of the Hemi Charger and 300. Test drove many of them. If you need a luxobarge that can burn rubber, that's your ticket. You can load them up with all kinds of nice luxury goodies and swallow 300 mile road trips with ease.

I took an extended test drive in a black top edition. V6 2wd. Nicely appointed car. I liked it. I really liked the interior. Very comfortable. It is one of the few cars that I can get into a decent driving position and be able to reach the radio and other things on the dash.

I think the front axle in the Charger AWD system disconnects when certain parameters are met, smokey burnouts when you want them and AWD when you need it.

I love the Charger and Challenger

This didn't start out as a AWD RT vs E92 comparison. I drove a loaded '13 RT RWD, loved it but priced too high at the time. Was actually searching 325/ 330xi's when the '09 E92 came along, wasn't passing that up. Loved the car from day one.

Not that I really need to sell/ trade it but the RT AWD could appear as the larger version of the E92. Both very well equipped, Hemi vs twin turbos. Each is what it is tho.

Will research the RT further, particularly the 8-speed. The vehicle slush fund is ample again but no need to jump in. Gotta sell the S197 too before draggin' new stuff home. First world car problems. I will own a Hemi yet, that is on my list.
