is what the scrap metal dealer gives you for a Neon shell with roll cage after this happens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xl3HMZ9-eK0
Doesn't seem like much for a faithful old friend, but the new car is faster anyway.

I scrapped my Saab 900 race car and got $35. There was no cage, the roof and doors were cut off it and there was almost more rust than good steel on the car.

I gave the neighbor kid some junk steel last night. He said he got $210 a ton last month. It might be a little lower right now.
You should have gotten $40-$50?
I scrapped 2 Neons just last month. The guy gave me a c-note each for 'em, and he came and hauled them off on a tilt bed. They didn't even have rims and tires, he had to remove the gas tanks before he could sell 'em, and after all that he still came out ahead.
Even stripped completely and gutted, a 1G Neon is gonna be about a ton; should bring more like $200.

It was 2214 wet on the track scales. I kept everything except the tub and cage, so I'm guessing under 1500#. Its one of those things where its not really worth the time to fight over it- the parking spot it opened up is worht more to me anyway.
The last time I hauled steel it was .02 per pound clean, .01 if it had heavy rust or paint or anything else on it. At that price it almost isn't worth loading and hauling.
Weird how scrap prices vary according to region. Here in Macon, it's more like $10/100#, which comes out to 2 bills per ton. Last year it was crazy; it got up to $14/100#. Within a couple of months, just about every derelict car in the county was on a slow boat to China. Copper and brass went thru the roof, and even now is still good money for scrap. Vandals were crawling under vacant houses and ripping out the copper pipes and carrying them to the yards. I had to re-plumb several rental houses because of that.
As long as the scrap price of CPVC stays low, I think they'll be alright for now..
It does vary a good bit. I haven't carried a car in for over a year so it may be up a good bit since then. I carry a good bit of aluminum in and even it changes a lot.

Wow.... the last scrap run I did paid 14 cents/pound for rotors/drums and 6 cents/pound for "other".
I managed to carry 2800lb of stuff in a 1/2 ton Chevy. 1000lb of that was rotors and drums.
We took a Pathfinder over the scales last week, and got $250. The closest place doesn't pay the best, but when you're hauling real scrappy scrap, you don't want to travel with it if you don't have to.

I come up with $248. Not bad for one Saturday morning's work..
Last car I scrapped was an engineless '91 RX7 'vert. ~$175.00. Not bad... I sold the tranny (automatic) and some other aluminum scrap to the same place for around $40. They call that 'irony aluminum', which always cracks me up.
I bought that car for $350, used the engine in the Jensenator, sold the A/C condenser, hose and evap for $100, sold the taillights and misc for $100, some other various stuff for around $125, then sold the empty shell for $175. Not bad.
Yeah, you got robbed. I got $55 for a corsica a few months ago. It was stripped of everything aluminum.
Greg got a free rear-ended Volvo S70, gutted it with the help of Tom/Steve B/etc ran it in Crash0Rama, made it to the finishline, dropped it off at our pick-n-pull and still got $275. He's my new hero.
best I got was two years ago with a 1972 Deville Convertable.. I walked away from that mostly complete (but very rusty) carcass for $700
