it felt like forever, but my bedroom is new. it had knotty pine walls/ceilings, constantly had dust falling through the boards from the "attic", mice had a racetrack to run through the walls, and the door was off the kitchen which is extremely not private. i did cut the new door in last year then never got around to doing the room around the door. removal of the pine walls plus the 1x straps that they ran across the studs to nail to netted a 2" gain each way in room size. it feels like a mile with a king size bed. it took 2 weeks of after work and weekends to get it done, with some slacking and playing with the kids in between. and to be fair, i'm a professional remodeling contractor/carpenter for a living so i had all the tools and experience to get it done relatively quickly.

without further dudes, the crappy before pictures.

worked all by myself except my dad helped me get the ceiling drywall hung. and i had a little helper sometimes.

after stuff: no more TV wires hanging down, carpet gone and new bruce hardwood in, custom mixed color out of a bunch of oops $5 gallons i had sitting here, cedar closet, and i didn't have the heart to cover the chimney with drywall so i got some man made stones from menards.

Wow, what a difference!! Nicely done.

I've got one or two of those projects in the back of my mind. The toys in the shop always seem to distract me.

1000% improvement! What is the story with the stone, covering support columns?

Wow that turned out great. Going to steal that color for the room I'm doing next weekend and you've shown me a great way to finish the closets.

Did you re-sell the knotty pine?

chimney is part of the wall between the kitchen and bedroom, and unfortunately the brickwork was ugly and turned to chimney block 2 feet down from the ceiling, so i used the stone veneer. cost was high but i saved that in paint, i bought no paint for the project that was more than $5 a gallon. some was left over from jobs.

most of the pine came off horribly as they used lots of nails, and different kinds. some very long, some short, some spiral. what came off ok is in a pile to be used for whatever, like filling in the hole in the kitchen wall(same pine) where the old door was.

home depot, lowes, and menards all carry the cedar closet material under the "cedar safe" brand. it's cheapest at menards but the others will price match if there is one nearby. at $25.99 per 15 square foot box it makes the cedar flakeboard look attractive price wise but that stuff is so darn ugly.

Really nice work. Can't believe you did hat in two weekends. That would take me a month.
