I'm looking to free up some more room in our 2 car garage and after getting the estimate for an addition with a 1 car garage on the existing structure, it's got me rethinking my options here. I can put up a 200 sq ft. "shed" without any permits so I'm looking for ideas. Ideally, I'm looking to have a garage door, small loft, add electricity, light insulation, and a small heater to keep it above 40*f in the winter. It will probably be on sonotubes but low to the ground to just drive a car in. Anybody have some completed projects around the same size they can share? (Bonus points if it looks classy!)
Consider your entry height and approach angle.
I bought a 12'x20' shed with the intention of storing my snow plow inside, but I can't raise the plow high enough to just drive up and drop it in, and ramps won't work because the plow is so far out beyond the truck's front tires.
Fail.
Just a little elevation can be a lot.

A shed and a detached garage are pretty different foundation wise. If I was parking a car in it, I'd want it ground level with a concrete floor. For a shed, a raised wood floor is fine. The shed could also be on skids and moveable, while a detached garage with a permanent foundation is not. Even if you aren't planning on moving it, there are advantages to being moveable. Many areas have limits on how close your shed can be to the property line. You don't need to worry as much if you get called out on that if it's moveable.
I built a 14' x 8' x 12' barn style, my area limits you to 120 sq. ft. without a permit. I'm really happy with it, and it looks nice. I think it adds to the look of the yard rather than detracts...
The barn style roof makes for a lot of storage space up top. The absolute best thing I did was add large double doors to each end. The other end is identical. So nothing in the shed is more than 7' from a door, nothing gets buried.
What are the dimensions of a 4 post or 2 post lift? A tall shed!
Ferrari goes up for the winter and back down for the summer. In the summer the other items below can also come outside. A snow blower can sit outside for the summer but easy to access in the winter as an example.

I like how you're thinking. I currently have a 2 car garage (more like 1.4 car with our laundry stuff in there) but even if I can put bikes and lawnmowers and toolboxes in one that can get snowed in and then rotate out the summer stuff seasonally I'd be happy. I just want the ability to be able to drive a car into it for winter storage if needed.
