They are out. According to June sales numebers (just saw them 2 hrs ago)- we sold just over 1000 Fiestas last month.

No idea when they will reach everyone, though.

I tried to test one earlier this week. The car that they were planning on dropping off was smooshed in a wreck. Bummer.

There was one owned by a friend at last weeks MSCC autocross on Belle Isle, there are plenty on the roads now with non M plates or MR lease cars.

does the rear hatch still leak when new? guess, the PNW hippies might have a problem, if so.

Any chance the three door hatch will grace our shores? Mazda2 or Fiesta flavor. Hopefully we can get that variant much like the focus lineup expanded over time.

They are saying not... but I'm still hoping. Would lke to get a new one and paint it to match my original....

I've not driven the US spec car yet, but the previous Euro generation was the best small car I've ever driven.

This week, after weeks of searching on FordDirect.com, 3 of the 4 Ford dealers in my area "show" Fiestas in inventory. HOWEVER, as I understand it (perhaps, incorrectly?) the way FordDirect works is that the car "joins" a particular dealer's inventory sometime after leaving the factory and BEFORE it's physically at the dealership.

My guess is that the closer you live to Mexico, I live in Tn. the sooner the Fiesta will be at your dealer. If you live in Vermont? well, you could be SOL for a few weeks longer.

BTW, based on what I've seen on FordDirect.com so far, the mix is about 55% SEDANS and 45% 5 door hatches. As far as transmissions? The mix is about 65% AUTOMATIC and 35% manual. (Car & Driver has a "Short Take" in their latest issue....hitting newstands, NOW. The E.P.A. numbers are SLIGHTLY better for the AUTOMATIC....because of it's 6 gears, versus the manual 5 speed.)

In my area, the "cheap" cars (under $14,000) are ALL blue hatches. Several dealers have SEL sedans that list for more than $20,000. The most popular option group on the "early" cars is group 203A...a "quick order group" that bundles cruise control (also a stand alone option, tho good luck finding it that way) and Sirius satelitle radio. Ford CLAIMS, that group 203A actually saves customers money because the options it includes would be ordered by the majority of folks anyway. In other words, don't hold yer breathe if you want a car without Sirius.

For those waiting on the Madza2....keep in mind the Mazda has a 1.5 liter engine, with about 102-105 hp to the Fiesta's 120 hp. Ford's 1.6 has HIGHER EPA numbers than the SMALLER Mazda 1.5. Mazda has a longer supply line so options will be bundled more often than with the Ford. By that, I mean that, for example, the Mazda3 only "gives" you cruise when you buy the upper model, the Touring. As I understand it, cruise is not available, even as an option, on a Mazda3 Sport. IF that is the case (and I could be wrong) the 2 will be the same. Go to Mazdausa.com and look at their pricing structure for the 3...I'm not sure they have one yet for the 2.

THE best reason, so far, to go with Mazda over Ford is that the Mazda is built in Japan while the Ford is built in Mexico. Tho, to be honest, Ford's Fusion is also being built in Mexico and it has a fairly good rep for being well built.

Finally, the Ford will have a fairly extensive aftermarket support by way of Europe. Mazda? Not so much.

No, I am not affliated with Ford Motor Co. or any of it's dealers or suppliers. If anything, I'm still ticked that Ford isn't offering U.S. buyers the 3 door hatch that Europe is getting. My old Fiesta was a 3 door, and while not as practical, I didn't buy it to be practical.

I just "jumped" over to Mazdausa.com and it's confirmed...you CAN NOT have cruise on the lower priced 2 Sport. Actually, there are several options you can't get, unless you move up to the 2 Touring.

BOTH models of the 2 are available in one of 6 colors, whether you buy a Sport or a Touring....the color choices are the same. Ditto with the interior color, black with red piping. Ford, I believe, does a "Honda" by giving you an array of colors (something like 8 or 9) but limiting the most popular ones to the top trim models.

A red or black 2 whether it's a Sport or Touring, will be a fairly striking car. But LOWER hp AND EPA numbers are only(?) offset by a slightly lower price.

In reply to integraguy:

MSRP's for the fiesta are higher than the M2 as well.

Anyone know if there are any substantive differences besides the drivetrains that would effect weights? I recall seeing somewhere that the M2 will be the lightest car in NA after the Smart cars.

<- in the market in the near future for a similar car. curious about the Forte5 due this fall as well.

NOT a fan of the M2 front end though. i'd have to get a personalized plate if i got one: "DERR"

Its a dual clutch automatic, not a traditional one, IIRC. If so, that'd probably make it the cheapest car you can buy with one. Wonder how hackable the trans control module is?

Looked on the internet. Says my Ford dealer has two. So I stopped by while I was out. They are assigned but not shipped yet.

From what i understand the dual clutch just replaces the torque convertor making a more direct drive. The transmission itself is sealed and has no dipstick. Fluid is good for 150000 miles.

The Mazda2 "may" be a little lighter than a Fiesta, but I'm not sure if it's enough to counter the LOWER hp number. The Mazda2 and Fiesta have different engines. The Mazda2 a 1.5 which a check of their website is good for 100 hp, while the Ford has a 1.6 good for about 120 hp. The Fiesta weighs about 2600 to 2700 lbs. To be "competitive" on a power to weigh ratio the Mazda would need to weigh 2200 lbs...and since it's nearly the same car as a Fiesta, I don't think that's possible. And it probably explains the LOWER EPA highway numbers for the Mazda.

meh...don't care about cruise b/c i never use it. ther eis actually not a single option on the higher-end model that i care for, with the possible exception of the leather-covered steering wheel. i don't care if it's slightly slower than the fiesta (and that will depend on more than power/weight) b/c it's not as if either of them are anything close to fast anyway...so really, one of them is just "less slow."

the 2 looks to be coming in at mid 2300s in weight, at least according to Mazda's site. i'll gladly swap out 20hp for 2-300 fewer lbs, but that's my personal taste. also, the 2 seems to have more interior space, again according to the respecitve websites. and i like the 2's looks a little better. the 2 strikes me as the reincarnation of the '89-91 civic si or my much-missed '87 Corolla FX16, or as close as we're likely to ever see again.

they both seem like awesome little cars, and it's about time we got cars like these over here. my only real disappointment with either is the shamefully low 6000rpm redline they both seem to share.

also holding out hope for an SVT Fiesta and/or a Mazdaspeed 2. the Miata's 165hp 2.0L engine would do wonders sitting in the 2's engine bay.
