An unnamed magazine recently squeezed a 13.7 second at 102 mph quarter mile out of the new 2011 Mustang 3.7L V6.

Repent, the end is nigh!

The V6 Mustang, once the realm of secretaries and sister-in-laws is now knocking on serious doors here. The evil side of me is thinking that with a set of 4.10 gears, slicks, and a shot of nitrous high 12s are not far off.

Am I the only one that finds this pretty shocking? Sure you could build a much faster car for under $2010, but this is a factory sports car with a warranty. Heck, the insurance should even be reasonable. I wonder if I can fit a baby seat in the back?

I bet the power to weight ratio on that is getting close to my 98' f-body. It took about ten years but that is one strong engine, and if the magazines are right it handles well too. An ecoboosted six should downright rival the V8 mustang soon, but please don't make it a replacement for displacement.

I informed Leann that since we don't NEED a tow vehicle since I am autocrossing the GLI we need to fond a 30mpg econobox to replace it with, then the commercial with the grey V6 stang sliding through the urban setting came on and I quipped "Like THAT!" she told me to fuggoff

The V6 Stang actually has better slalom and skid pad numbers than the V8. I would love to see one of each show up at an autocross and run the same driver through them.

I'm thinking I need to try to scam a test drive of the new 5.0.

I'm already thinking about how depreciation might help my cause for one in a few years. ALOT of car for your money.

Well, the secretaries and sisters-in-laws will still have their V6 Mustangs. Fast has officially been unleashed to the masses... It's kind of scary.

That's all well and good, and I think it's awesome the V6 model is going to be taking some names....but with the base V8 model pushing more than 400 ponies off the showroom floor, I think it's time that the every-day American V8 is going to put it self on the list of things to fear, once again!

...Just as soon as they depreciate in value enough that we can start transplanting them into Miatas and S2000s.

Yep--1970 eventually turned into 1973 and all of the horsepower went bye-bye.

Yep, the insurance industry saw that uber-horsepower ratings and stupid energy-policies (Thanks, Congress!) were a simple way to justify raising premiums.

I sure hope capitalistic-driven technology will always find a way to stick a finger in the eyes of those who are "looking out for us".

it did 13 years ago in the form of the almighty LS series of engines. ford is just that far behind the game.

was that 13.7 @ 102mph with the factory 2.73 gears, or the 3.31 gearset? the one that Ford Motor Company seems to have misplaced somewhere between the build order and the dealership has the 3.31 gears, and I think everyone related to me would rather I know the 1/4 time by someone else's experience rather than my own... even though it would be fun...

Or the 5.7L Vortec over the 5.4L triton of arount that vintage.

In fact, Chevy has been pumping out good v8's for well over a decade now, its not GM's fault that Dodge and Ford had terribley lousy motors.

It's the Performance Package. Details are:

-A 3.31 rear axle ratio for quicker off-the-line acceleration -Mustang GT coupe front and rear stabilizer bars -Mustang GT front struts and rear shocks/springs -Shelby GT500 rear lower control arm -Unique 19-inch wheels -Pirelli performance tires for improved grip -Mustang GT front and rear brake calipers with Performance Friction pads -A strut tower brace for increased body rigidity -Unique electronic stability control calibration with Sport mode for performance driving -Unique badging

Copied from here:

http://www.muscularmustangs.com/2009/news0285_2011_mustang_performance_package.php

With less weight, especially over the front tires, the V6 with the performance package will probably handle better than the GT with the same package.

Makes me wonder what a 5.0 with the 3.73 rear will do

I just read this post the other day and came across a review of the new SHO, it runs a 13.7 quarter mile too. Subtract weight, add turbos, install in mustang. Hoontastic!

13.5?

seriously, look at the australian falcon models, the 5.4 liter boss model is technically faster in the 1/4 mile than the turbo I6, but not for long after that. the turbo 6 also handles better than the giant lump v8 model

Maybe they're good, but they're not dominate. You LS boys can only dream of 4.6 ltr. factory motors capable of 1000bhp with simple bolt-ons and if FoMoCo had put the same Manley rods in the Condor (GT500) motor that they put in the Terminator (03-04 Cobra) motors, the Condor motor would be 1000whp with bolt-ons. As it is, the Condor is able to put down 800+whp with bolt-ons, how many sub-350ci factory LS motors can do that? The answer is NONE of them.

Ford's got it going on, GM and Chrysler are lucky to be hangin' on...
