Yep. The rage i experienced trying to open mine is still fresh in my mind 6 months later.
How different is it from the Silver? I didn't really have any trouble.
This is the first gopro that I've unpacked, so I cannot compare it. The mount the camera is attached to cannot be used unless it is removed from a flat base....and that cannot be removed unless the mount for the remote is taken off.

First time for me was with a 1st-gen GoPro.
