Tried one.
Meh.
$18 buys you three pounds of individually wrapped Mahi-Mahi fillets at Costco any day of the week...that's $1.50 per quarter pound...no snouts, no pee-pee's (guaranteed since fish don't even have them).
Quick - versatile - healthy - delicious
You're welcome.

Other than healthy, the McRib hits all of those. I don't care what it's made out of, it hasn't killed me yet so it can't be all that bad. And if that's what gets me in the end I've made my peace with it.
I'm not saying that it's fine dining or that "real" barbeque isn't way better, but you can bet that I'll be at my local McDonalds on December 2nd.
I'm about 99% sure that this is only popular because it is only around for a short amount of time. People get excited, order it, remember that it tastes like that ribwich sandwich we all (at least we millenials) got in middle school and think "hey, this is OK for a few bites" and then never order it again until you're reminded that you "love" it a year later and can't understand why it isn't on the menu full time.
I haven't had one in about 5 years. I hadn't had one in about 5 years before that - which was my first. I doubt I'll ever have another, honestly. And I LOVE McDonalds. I LOVE fast food. And I love cheap food too - cheap being the "waste" food. Assuming I'm not plant-based at the time, I'll happily eat Lengua or hot dog. But the ribwich? Meh. I'd rather have nearly anything else on the McD's menu.

Taste-per-dollar too, IMHO. It is consistent, it is tasty, it is cheap, it is available. Sure, you might feel horrible later, but I do love it.

Agreed.
And the dollar menu has probably fed more people than any other social program imo

The cheeseburger is my comfort food.
Eating McDonalds is lot like playing with yourself. Everyone does it but nobody admits it.
I read an article years ago that said that the regular McDonalds hamburger was actually pretty decent in terms of it's nutritional value. If I stop by it's the 2 cheeseburgers small fry meal for me.
I only eat McDonald's when I am traveling as need a quick meal. The kiosks they have to allowing ordering in any language really help me out when I am tired in a Chinese train station and need something so I don't throat punch my colleagues.

Eh... Taco Bell is my guilty pleasure for cheap and tasty.
I had a McDonald's hamburger a few months ago. I was in a hurry and thought, "how bad could it be?" Really bad. Worse than I remembered. It had been some 30+ years since I last had a McD burger and I plan on it being at least another 30 years.

The only thing I have found consistent at McDonalds is how unable to get the order right they are.

The McDonalds here seems to get it right pretty consistently.
Tim Hortons is awful though. How bloody hard is it to serve coffee and donuts?

I have McD's way more often than I should. There is one exception to it, which I'll explain below, but it has been over (thinks back to what car we were in) 16, and probably closer to 20 years, since they've messed up my order.
The exception to this? Prior to 2018, the McDonalds that is the easiest for me to get to also happens to be the one closest to their former HQ. They would use it as a training for Hamburger University, and also would often use it as a test site for different items as well as ideas. That location was the first one I ever saw a double drive through at, they'd often have menu items come and go without any warning, and it wasn't unusual for them to give out free fries or drinks as it was often a longer wait than it should have been. It happened once or twice where they messed up, but more often it was them checking the bag and realizing they got the cars out of order. But since HQ moved, the service there has normalized and the menu is now the same as every other McD's I've been to.

I swear if I dare ask for them to leave the onions off a burger, they don't. If I order the chicken fingers, I'd get nuggets, etc. Maybe I am just unlucky but they get my order wrong more times then any other fast food place.

It may be the last dollar menu soon too. It's getting thinner by the month, but the cheeseburger is still there, hot-n-spicy (personal fav), fries, and any size coke. I'll choose Wendy's food any day, but their dollar menu died a while back and I have to be feeling pretty flush to buy Wendy's on my own. But if it's just for me, it's almost always mcds. Consistent, tasty, convenient. And they have the best fries*, I'll literally fight anyone on that.
Also, because it seems pertinent: Death to the Burger King. Tastes like Carl's Jr. that was left out for a few days and slapped in the microwave.
*for a national chain. My absolute favorites come from a local Greek joint. Those silly euros know their way around a spud.
