I am so sick of the Bungals crying about everything. You sucked, again, get over it. Win more games if you want in the playoffs. NO ONE is scared of you. Especially not the Chiefs.

I don't understand why they didn't just hire Vrabel, I guess they still have a option to now, but he has all the leverage because other teams want him, Vrabel will want control and would Kraft let that happen. Other then the Bills they are lucky that the jets and Dolphins typically suck.

They had made a promise to Mayo that he was going to be the next coach. It may have even been in his contract. What they didn't expect is that Belichick would leave so soon. They had to ditch him a year before they wanted to, so Mayo was sent in there prematurely with a terrible, duct-taped staff and even worse roster. If he had handled the team better and took accountability over some of his team's actions, he'd be coaching here next year. He flat out wasn't ready nor was he a good fit.

Vrabel is likely the guy, and he's a clear upgrade over Mayo and even Belichick in his post-Brady years. But will he be "good"? Who knows. He understands how New England works, so that's a plus, and he was beloved as a player here. I can't imagine they would go with anyone else.

If I was Vrabel I would choose Jags over the patriots as I think the Bills are going to dominate until Allen retires or leaves. AFC South I believe is pretty week division and could easily dominate if he finds the right offensive coordinator.

Here are my picks for the Weekend,

Ravens over Steelers

Chargers over Texans

Bills over the Broncos

Bucs over the commanders

Eagles over the Packers

Vikings over the Rams

Jags are a bad idea because of the owner. At least the pats have some history with this owner being willing to really build.

Vrabel is scheduled to interview in person today in New England. I would be shocked if he didn't come away with a deal. He is beloved here, has after-playing history with the Krafts after being inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame, and he's at least a competent head coach. This is everything they want both functionally and to save face for the past few years of awfulness. I strongly believe he would have been hired last year if not for Mayo's contract clause that made him the heir to the coaching job.

As for the team being able to compete with the Bills... they have a lot of work to do. They only really have two really good players on the roster: Drake Maye and Christian Gonzalez. Everyone else is just bad. I think they could get back to their winning ways in a couple seasons with the right personnel moves and a decent coaching staff.

Don't they have a stunning amount of cap space too?

I personally wouldn't take the Jags job as a coach no matter what. Baalke is terrible and it just seems like a terrible run team all around.

And that stadium is a trash-bin.  I actually came away liking the city proper, which I wasn't expecting... but that stadium was butt.

The stadium is getting a pretty major revamp supposedly breaking ground later this year which could displace the Jags for up to two full seasons. Seems like a fairly risky move for a team that is spending an increasing amount of time in the UK (and giving up home games to do so) and is delivering an on-field product that fans probably won't be particularly enthusiastic to wait around for for two years.

Finding a new GM seemed like a way bigger priority than finding a new coach, but here we are...

Well, Green Bay certainly underwhelmed.  But somebody has some 'splaining to do about the call on that opening kickoff fumble...

Yes, the Pats have a TON of cap space for the upcoming season. Last time they went big on the free agency market a few years back was an unmitigated disaster, though. Only one player from that bunch (TE Hunter Henry) has done anything. Everyone else washed out within half a season. I honestly don't see them doing a ton here but they will need to do something.

Can somebody find out where the steelers defense is?  They didn't show up to the game on Saturday.  I'm wondering if they all got the flu or something and just forgot to call in.

they have so many holes (basically everywhere except TE, QB, and CB1) that it doesn't make sense to go on a big FA spending spree. They need 2-3 years of good drafting and then an FA spend

I am in no way expecting them to fix things via free agency. That never works out that way. Free agency serves to support good drafting, but they first need to be good at drafting. They have been ABYSMAL at drafting for almost two decades.

Belichick was notoriously bad, save for hitting the lottery with Brady and a few others. Most of their successful teams were due to lucking out with veteran retreads and the fact that Brady could elevate just about anyone to his level of play. I swear, he chose bad players on purpose.

Post-Belichick: their draft class last year, save for Maye, was trash. Year after year, they pass up the best players on the board and either trade down for trash or draft the wrong players. They did it again last year, and drafted two WRs that can't play. One of them caught his first NFL pass in garbage time during the last game of the season. The other one drops everything you throw to him. Inexcusable.

Hopefully Vrabel and his incoming staff can figure this out. They have no offensive line, no receiving corps, and one defensive back that can play. They have so much work to do, and this rebuild will take years.

Not trash talk, but some people really can't do math. It's $48K, not $40M.

I really feel bad for Baker Mayfield. They had that game won. But this is the time when mistakes are serious. Not sure it was his fault, but he took the blame.

I saw something on FB that Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys have chosen to part ways...  God, I hope he doesn't end up in Chicago.

I'd love to see Houston somehow take out KC this weekend. It'd be funny on a few levels.

The Saints are looking for a coach and McCarthy was there from 2000 to 2004, but the Saints are in salary cap hell.  After dealing with Jones I'm guessing he's looking for the best ownership he can find.  I would hope that would eliminate Chicago (and probably Jacksonville).

EDIT: And now that I look at the list of teams needing a head coach, none of them strike me as particularly good examples of ownership...

Odd, that. laugh

Personally, I think McCarthy to the Bears would be a perfect fit, but I may be biased. wink

Yeah I'm with you here. As soon as my tam gets eliminated I start rooting for chaos. A Texans/commanders or Texans/Rams Superbowl would be amazing. Really the only thing that could have been better would be a Steelers/Rams game where the team that started 1-4 faced off against the team that finished 0-4, both of which no one really wants to see in the Superbowl.

Alas, we're probably going to get Chiefs/Lions and a Chiefs threepeat.

I think the NFC is more of a tossup than the AFC side. The Rams certainly came on at the right time, the Eagles have the tools to hold the ball and their defense is playing solidly, and the Commanders are playing with house money at this point. It would be super satisfying to see Detroit finally get over the hump, but it's not a cakewalk in the NFC the way it's going to be for KC I fear.

McCarthy had 2 losing seasons with the Cowboys in 5 seasons and Jason Garrett 2 losing season in 10 seasons. He doesn't elevate a team and the Packers and Cowboys players gave up on him. I don't understand the allure, however if Bowles is out at Tampa it would probably be a easy fit because he can continue to the status qou there.
