Looks like it was fleet owned and barely driven. Most 7.3 excursions have 10x that mileage.

Obviously I don't understand the market for these things. With over 8 hours to go it's at $10.6K, to me that seems nuts for a 20 year old Excursion.

That's on par for a 300k mile old 7.3 in a rolling tetanus trap that wouldn't pass inspection around here. People think that motor is worth it's weight in gold.

They do. But, as good as it is, it's still wrapped in a 20-year-old Ford.

$10k for a 7.3 F250/F350 in that low mileage condition is a pretty solid deal. Diesel excursions are rare and fairly unique, making this an even better deal. Right or wrong diesel trucks hold their value well, especially since the next generation of powerstroke is a dumpster fire and the one after that still has some issues (although you are right that everything else about the newer trucks is better).
I predict this sells north of $15k. Even $20k could happen.
The real price action will happen in the final minute(s) .
Fire dept owned means stored indoors and religious maint. This thing should be nearly new, mechanically. Imagine what it would cost new and then remember that you can't buy one new. Closest is a gas Expedition XL and that's gonna run you $50k+
I had a 7.3 Ford. _it_ was a dumpster fire. And the interior of these things is totally Fisher Price. Crack Pipe.
The 7.3L engine holds up well to extended idle time. My nephew is a fireman/paramedic and when he first started they had units with the 7.3. They later got new units with the 6.0L and they were always going into the shop for work. They ran better when they ran but the 6.0 does not like to sit and idle like the 7.3.

Last one of these I looked at had 275k miles, was in good shape body/interior, and was privately listed at $12k. It sold quickly.
I was behind a diesel Excursion yesterday that sounded like it was Cummins powered. Nothing outwardly saying such, but based on sound it didn't sound like a Power Stroke. It also had the cool three piece rear gate that has a hatch, and dutch doors(is that what they're called?). I don't know if they all came with that setup, but it sure was cool. Seemed like a cool vehicle, and was in remarkable condition for crusty Cape Cod.
There never was anything else like the diesel excursion available in the US and they are discontinued, so if you want one there is a limted pool.
I could easily see someone taking this one, churching it up (leather interior, nice stereo, lift, rims, tint, etc), and selling it for 40-50k. They are a rare bird and if done well will pull a premium before Race Wars.
And before it starts, a Chevy 2500 Suburban is not the same as an Excursion. No live axle front suspension, no direct injection diesel available. If you want a truly offroad capable rig with a modern enough diesel, this is the only thing like it from an OE.
PNW means no rust, nada, ziltch - compared to my MI home. Diesel anything does have a PNW tax added to it (everything is higher priced out here plus the 7.3L fanbois will drive it up).
I had the 6.0L version year ago, it was perfect for moving a large family and towing a house. Plus the paint / wrap -

For what it's worth, the same 3.0 diesel engine in the current Silverado has a max tow rating of 9300lbs. That's almost 2k less than the Excursion, and it's almost 4k less than the most capable 6.2L gas powered Silverado.
I see plenty of diesel excursions sell for $15k with 100k-200k miles. People love these things for some reason.
Also, I just hauled my s600 100 miles and got 16.5mpg all highway. Friday I will be driving to Virginia from central Texas, no trailer. I am interested to see what this old thing will get for gas mileage with 236k miles on her.

That's all true, but it still seems like a pretty small market demo that actually needs a giant SUV with a diesel.
The real money would be in taking a modern Super Duty and putting a full SUV body on it. You could probably charge $200k for that and people would buy it. I wonder what Centurion is up to these days...
