Huh. I'll be damned. I guess I should have known that someone would fill that niche.

Outstanding, I love it. I don't want one, but I'm glad someone makes one. I assume the radios shown in this pic are to talk to the third row passengers a couple of time zones back.

This was my 7.3 Powerstroke experience as well, though no one on the internet will believe a single bad word about this engine. Granted, mine had over 300,000 oilfield miles on it, but I bet one that has been sitting most of it's life won't be trouble free either.
Actually the SUV/Excursion conversions start at $41K on top of your supplied truck. Not too bad really.
found this while looking at the excursion.

I might see one of these a few times per month on my commute. I assumed it was just an older Ex with a front end swap, but it does have 6.7 Powerstroke badges. I'll have to pay more attention to the details (rear wheel arches, fender badges, etc) next time I see it.

I wonder what it would have gone for if it had been a 6.0 PS?
10k probably. 7.3 tax is strong.

Rather have a well sorted 6.0.

Interesting. I was doing some work at a MLB pitchers home the other day and saw one of those 6 door conversions shown on this website. We walked around it and looking closely it looked very factory fresh, and was the newest body truck. Not something I would ever want or understand, but it was very nicely done and certainly interesting.

Probably the same. 6.0 Ex are desirable too.

I've owned a few. Bulletproof. They eat GPRs at $40 every 60-100k miles, but they have earned their reputation despite a few lemons.
I thought about bidding so I could do cool diesel guy stuff like go get a cup of coffee and leave it idling out front, or go get a sub sandwich and leave it idling out front, or get fuel and leave it idling...
This one is semi local to me. 7.3l, ZF 6 speed. Called the Spool Bus. Owned by a SCCA autocrosser/Lemons racer. Well taken care of. No clue what the mileage is.
I don't have any other pictures of it but if you are interested I'll be happy to pass on contact information or get more information. He was asking around $19k.

It is a conversion. He did it a couple of years ago. It's supposed to tow very well.
Based on the pricing that happened for this 28k mile Excursion, I recommend that your buddy be sure to get his manual trans Excursion up on some national level advertising like Ebay. That should be a desirable combo to the rabid fans.
93gsxturbo said:And before it starts, a Chevy 2500 Suburban is not the same as an Excursion. No live axle front suspension, no direct injection diesel available. If you want a truly offroad capable rig with a modern enough diesel, this is the only thing like it from an OE.
Yeah, the 2500 Suburban is a better all-round truck. We paid ~6K for a really clean, low miles '99 K2500 'Burb earlier this year and the thing is way nicer in every way than the 2001 F350 crew cab diesel I used to have.

Mine had 150K on it when I got it, I had it for 2 years and about 20K miles, and it needed about $6000 in repairs during my ownership. Easily the highest $$/mile vehicle I've ever owned, even disregarding the cost of diesel at 15mpg (and that was the best tank...I saw as low as 11 while towing)
If you dive deep enough into the internet, you'll find the 7.3 issues. Injectors. Wiring harnesses. CP sensors. Front ends that wear out (though this is more of the truck's fault, not the engine). Turbo seals, engine leaks, starters, glow plug solenoids, etc etc etc.
Plus the automatic transmissions are not the stoutest things on the face of the earth, and right before I sold mine the rear end started making noise. Still got $1500 more for the truck than I paid for it originally.

This right here is why I don't get the love for these things. Putting aside the 7.3 issues (any engine is going to run into *some* issues after it has some wear on it), it's the rest of the vehicle that doesn't seem worth it to me. And I've owned a lot of late 90s-early 2000s Fords. Biodegradable wiring harnesses. "Environmentally friendly" solder that makes PCBs fail after a number of years. Cheap cheap cheap interior materials that break and warp and generally look shiny and crappy. Plus, any vehicle that's 20-ish years old is going to need all the rubber bits replaced, regardless of miles. And even that "bulletproof" engine has starters and alternators and AC compressors and other stuff attached to it that can potentially strand you if they fail.
I get that they are unique vehicles that there is a market for, but paying $20k for that set of headaches seems insane to me.
