I had heard about a place here called Proto BuildBar and Saturday I finally checked it out for my birthday.

BuildBar

A wall of 3D printers, all hooked up to laptops. And a huge library of stuff to print. I went in with Star Wars intentions, and ended up with my Han Solo in carbonite. Some SCCA friends joined me and the wife got two orange pylons to make a necklace out of, and he started with browsing Miata stuff but settled on an X-Wing fighter. Here's my item before I cleaned up the flash a little:

Good beer selection, coffee as well, and a few simple food stuffs (we went down the street to Brixx for dinner). Our small stuff ran $20, the larger pieces weren't much more. The staff was incredibly friendly (and cute didn't hurt either), and I'll be going back soon to see what comes up when I enter "MR2" or "Abarth".

Cool. Imagine what Ole Orval a Wilbur would have said about a place like that!

I. I had no idea such a place existed. I'll have to make the pilgrimage up from Cincinnati

I forgot about the other side of the place has benches with soldering equipment. You can rent bench time and do your own thing, or the staff will help you out. They sell assorted kits and pieces, including the Raspberry Pi 2 mini computer that you can build to do almost anything. If I were still in high school this place would have all my $$.

You'll need to log in to post.
