Speeds do drop in the garage--I get about 500/500 in the house, but only maybe 80/80 in the garage. Still plenty of bandwidth for anything I would do out there, though. And 80/80 is still faster than most home ISPs supply anyway.
Before I go jumping into anything, I also need to figure out how to connect the solar inverter, and if it'll do wifi and/or hard wire ethernet.
Since this is probably 1000s of people that need to do this , is there a Reddit forum about this ?
I like the idea of future proofing it to 5g if it not too much more $$$$

Update:. I decided to attempt one of these new fangled "mesh" wifi systems to leapfrog internet over to the building where the solar inverter is. After much research, I pulled the trigger on the Vilo system. It's significantly cheaper than many of the alternatives, and had good reviews. The 3 pack of Vilo units arrived today, and after work I set it up.
I had a 50' long Ethernet cable I ran from the cable modem (which does it's own wifi for the house) out to the shed just outside our house. I stuck the first Vilo in the roof area of the shed and pulled it in. After setting it up on my phone app, boom, internet outside.
Next I put the second Vilo in my garage. Its about 50' away from the shed, but after some fiddling with locations I was able to get a middling decent signal to it. So now my shop has wifi. I ran a speed test out there and was pulling about 35 Mbps down. Not too bad.
I put the third Vilo in the building with the solar in question. Again, took some fiddling with locations until I was able to get a decent signal and about 25 Mbps download speeds. Conveniently, this Vilo is also about 3 feet from the solar inverter.
So now I have wifi blanketing the backyard, just need to try plugging the Vilo into the solar inverter with an Ethernet cable. The Vilo has 3 ports on the back for this, pretty handy.
So far, installation has been easy, and the units seem to have decent range. Definitely recommend.

Yes, and I'm assuming that was the cause of some of my positioning issues. The shed outside the house has block walls and a tin roof, but wooden siding on the triangle of the A at the end, so that's where I put Vilo #1. My garage is steel roof and sides, but the Vilo seemed to work ok as long as it wasn't in the roof area. That is, lower was actually better. And in the building with the solar, lower also seemed to work better, though that building is block walls with a steel roof, too.

Yeah the steel roofs definitely affected you but seems you solved the issue. I've had to aim stuff through windows to avoid the steel.
Eventually they will sunset 4G. I will then go back to land lines
