Will be finishing up a '91 4.3 Chevy soon for sale on CL. This engine was from my XJ project that got old and ended up parting it out. The 4.3 will be street stout w/ 270H Comp Cam and valve train and flat tops so it's a carb engine only, though I have a Edelbrock 3714 computer cam that could work w/ TBI. Prolly lookin' at around 200 horse/ 275 ft. lb.
I'm intent on sellin' it right now but have to ponder keeping it for another project. My top two new project ideas are V8 TR-6 or Fiero GT w/ transplant... but the 4.3 wouldn't be my top choice for these. 2.8 S-10 upgrades are out, I know somebody here did a E30/ 4.3 but that don't float my boat either.
Any suggestions for this engine before I let it go? It'd hafta be an application where a V8 wasn't applicable. Ya know I just gotta ask. No Jeeps or trucks.
How about a S-10 based kit car? Thought about that myself since I hit a deer in my 96.
To do a plain transplant, I would say Chevette too. Maybe even into a Vega/Monza?
Theres a vega here local with a 4.3, it's been on there for awhile, motor looks right at home there.

Is there any external differences to the balance shaft 4.3s to the non BS ones?
How about I pull the 2.6 in my 83 Sapporo and put that engine in its place?

AFIK, the only difference is internally
I know zip about Miatas, would it be nuts to swap a 4.3 into one?
One guy did: http://home.earthlink.net/~miatav8/id3.html

Chances are, anyplace a 4.3 will go, so will a 350. Just sayin.
