The Edmond Fitzgerald disappeared. Gordon Lightfoot's song immortalized it for all time. A big stormfront rolled through Northern Illinois about an hour ago, as if nature still remembers.

I live near Joliet and reminded my wife about the EF as it was passing through tonight. I've read a lot on this subject.
I once got the Edmund Fitzgerald confused with Eleanor Rigby and then decided to sit down and think of lyrics about the boat that would fit into the Beatles song, which required me to read up on the actual tragedy of it. Quite sad.
Many places are surprised to learn they have it available on their karaoke machines. Nothing ruins a night faster or funnier than attempting it.
My customer in Hammond manages and does the engineering for the Wilfred Sykes which travels the Duluth to the Gary area moving taconite.
They had me come up to Sturgeon Bay, WI one winter and measure up new rubber gaskets for the hatch seals. I was a little nervous in case they failed. The ship is fascinating and the mechanicals and tool room are impressive.
A fan of Gordon Lightfoot, and fan of the song, ever since it came out when I was a young’un. Have heard of the ship of and on since, but the only details I know are from the song... don’t actually know if he stuck to true facts ( except the dialogue, of course!)

The Arthur M Andersen frequently winters and docks in Sturgeon Bay. Pretty sure it spent all of 2015 there; I caught a couple of smallmouth just off its hull a few years ago. It was the last ship to make contact with the Edmund Fitzgerald.

My cousin likes to tip the DJ at strip clubs to play it before he buys a lapdance.
In reply to mtn (Forum Supporter) :
I was so confused by this post...so I went to listen to the song for context. About five minutes in, I had more tears of laughter for your cousin than I did for the song. :D
One of my favorite guy sayings, traded about as some men do when they see or discuss an attractive lady, is "Wreck that E36 M3 so hard Gordon Lightfoot will write a song about it"
In reply to Dieselboss15 :
SS Edmund Fitzgerald was an American Great Lakes freighter that sank in a Lake Superiorstorm on November 10, 1975, with the loss of the entire crew of 29.

I just used that as a joke text to SWMBO. Apparently, now, I'm going to be very busy this weekend.
E36 M3. My bluff's been called.
If I am found dead next week, feel free to say "he died doing what he loved". That would be true on multiple levels, even, and the both of us go nerdy over that sort of thing, so, hey, fitting.
