Today is the last day at my current oil analysis gig. Monday I will be the new rental coordinator/parts/service guy at Bobcat Indy north. Things here had just gotten too much and I needed the change. Looks like theyre going to work my ass off on my last day..... which is part of the problem I had here.

So yay! Friday of a the old job!

Congrats on the new horizons!

Bob of Bobcats, ha.

You can do some cool E36 M3 with a Bobcat if you have the skills and familiarity of running them.  We've all heard of 2 Men and a Truck for moving company.  I think there is a solid business model for 2 Men and a Bobcat (or 1 man).  Even if that Bobcat was a rental, a dude knowing what he's doing can make quick work of a tough job.

Yeah, going from Bob the real oil guy to Bob the Bobcat (and Doosan) guy. Funny because they (Bobcat) has their PLP oil analysis program through POLARIS so I'll still be sending stuff to my former colleagues.

And, like most job changes, where I am and have been led me to this one. I wouldn't have gotten the interview without the dealership experience, the steelmill and my current fluid analysis gig. So it feels like a move in the right direction for me. Just a little more pay ($1k-ish per year) but my new commute is 2 miles (16 currently) so there's some serious savings in fuel and maintenance costs. Especially with tubey getting 20mpg in the current commute. Thats another almost grand in savings there.

Congrats.  A lot of people stay in a bad job too long.

That's a sweet sounding gig there. I'd love to be able to bike to work.

Gotta echo Stampie too; too many people stay in jobs they don't like and just become the jobsite equivalent of a black hole of suck.

In reply to Stampie (FS) :

I stayed as long as I could. As soon as I realized that there was nothing left that I could do to effect change to help my coworkers and company I was done. Then the -vid hit. I refuse to stay and bang my head against a brick wall because they're too stubborn to listen to new ideas.

And what are they going to do if you don't? Fire you?

I remember when I got laid off from a HORRIBLE contract job (I had been looking for full-time the entire time) they told me on a Monday morning that my last day was Friday, "Now go out there and finish the week strong." What kind of stupid E36 M3 is that? You just told me I no longer have a job. What in the world makes you think I care if anything gets done?

The place was horrible, only time I ever worked in a union shop (they made aircraft parts)......it was the kind of place that literally had me thinking about putting a bottle of whiskey in my desk drawer.

One of our HR people I am friends with came out and chatted. Its not in me to not work. I made a commitment and promised to work 2 weeks.  I am doing just that. The ones that were NOT are still not and that's no longer my problem.

Congrats Bob! I had no idea you'd stuck it out that long there.

I think you need to update your username to bobcatzilla though.

More money and a super short commute sound like upgrades to me, even if there is no culture change!

The first 3 years here were great. I loved it. Moved up, learned a lot, got training and certifications. Then the place started to fall off the rails.

I get discounts on rentals but I don't know how much yet. I WILL rent one to build a better backstop when I get the chance.

One other thing, they've done nothing for my going away. In fact it's kinda become the "thing that is not mentioned" around the office. Last day, I'm in here killing it like always and the wife asked me what they did for me. When I said "nothing, I'm doing what I always do work my ass off" she got pretty pissed.

I've never worked anywhere, where the company did something for people essentially quitting. Except maybe a few of the people your close friends with at the office take you out and buy you lunch on your last day.

Now, if you've been there a long time and you're retiring? Oh yeah, everywhere I've been does something for that.

yeah, until this year people leaving they would meet at the brewery right around the corner from here and people would come after work and have a beer and share stories. Some dept heads would bring in lunch for everyone etc. It's always been a thing. Until now.
