The documentary series based on the voyages of the starship Enterprise began.
Love it or hate it, Star Trek has had a pretty good run. Its fun to see how many actors have passed through the series. TNG is my favorite, followed by Voyager then DS9.

I'm a lifelong fan, especially the first six movies and TOS. But I also religiously watched TNG, though I did bail on DS9 and VOY after a while. Of the new series, Disco is just OK, Picard is quite good, and Lower Decks is a real delight.
Star Trek is one of my brothers favorite series, he can rewatch all over again even though he knows what is coming next.
I watched the whole original series on Netflix some years ago. Then TNG. Couldn't do 9 or voyager. I liked all the movies I've seen. Hard to believe Bill Shatner is still kicking.
It was all pretty fun, and though I generally prefer SW, I'll admit that Roddenberry pioneered the way and paved the road Mr. Lucas came to dominate.
But for fiction, I'm more of a high-fantasy guy than sci-fi.
Amazing how successful it was. I watched the originals in prime time.
The whole thing possibly wouldn't have happened without Lucille Ball
I found I really enjoyed enterprise, except for the theme song. Grew up watching the original series on reruns and was super stoked when TNG came out. DS9 was hit or miss for me. Did like Voyager. Have not watched any of the newer stuff other than the movies yet.
I do clearly remember going to see the first Star Trek movie in the theater with my dad. Good Times
The first series was straight up classic science fiction. I have been a bit less motivated to see some of the later movies or series.
I think my favorite movie (maybe after Wrath of Khan) is Galaxy Quest
Here's hoping you are not a redshirt in the Star Trek of life.
I think I've posted these here before, but if you're ever near Ticonderoga, NY, check out the Star Trek original set tour. It's a faithfully reconstructed copy of the original Desilu Studios set, and quite impressive. It's astonishing how well they did with what were really simple props and sets.

That is a pretty cool connection of which I was previously unaware. I remember watching the original series as it aired, and my grandma was a big fan of the zany antics of Lucille Ball, but I never dreamed there was a link between the two.
A day late, but happy 55th! I'm a HUGE fan of all things Star Trek. I was introduced to The Original Series as a young kid by my dad, and was a big fan of the movies as well. I remember vividly watching Star Trek IV for the 1st on our Sony Trinitron when it hit HBO (you know, the one with the whales) and loving it. I had just gone on a rather infamous whale watch with my mom and her friend (seas got very rough, and I saw zero whales but plenty of people with green faces) and the fact that they saved a pair of whales was cool to me as a kid. A few years ago, I saw a screening of The Wrath of Khan a few years ago with William Shatner doing a Q&A after the movie. Even though he spent approximately 72% of the time talking about breeding horses, it was really cool.
When I was about 8 or so (around 1990), I discovered TNG, but my dad wouldn't watch it with me because "that's not REAL Star Trek", but I didn't care. I was determined to watch it on my own! I was staying over my uncle's one Saturday night, and a local station played TNG on Saturday evenings. I found it in the guide, and was pumped to finally watch it! The episode was Ethics, which is the one when Worf gets taken out by his mortal enemy, the insidious blue barrel, in a cargo bay. The next 40+ minutes were occupied with Worf waffling back and forth with having back surgery or killing himself, all while treating his kid like crap, as he usually did. No space battles, no cool action, just Worf complaining. It's amazing that I watched more of that show after that. I love me some TNG though.
My favorite series of all is DS9. I loved the dark, gritty story arc, and how much of it was serialized. Back then, alongside its contemporary Babylon 5, that was a new concept in the Sci-Fi realm. That show more than made up for the lack of action in much of TNG, and they weren't afraid to take risks. I'm currently watching it again, and so many of the stories still resonate with today's world.
The rest of the shows are great as well. Voyager is a good watch, Enterprise had some great ideas and was cut short, the Animated Series was downright WILD, Discovery is entertaining, Picard is an interesting re-visitation of some older story lines, and I'm loving Lower Decks. I'm really looking forward to the new stuff they are coming out with in the next few months as well!
Also, for anyone who's had a tough time with one of the shows: They typically don't pick up until around Season 3, especially TNG, DS9, and Voyager. DS9 for instance, spends two entire seasons flushing out some of the main characters and the Bajoran/Cardassian cultures just to set it all up to the Dominion War. The last episode of Season 2 pretty much sets up the rest of the show's run, where the different factions fight (or ally with) the Dominion. It's one of the best stories in all of Sci-Fi, and worth sticking it out all the way to the end.
Watched them all. Original series has grown a bit too corny for me. TNG I enjoyed until the episode where they has to put a speed limit on the ship because warp drive was badly effecting some planet somewhere, and I was tired of being preached at. DS9 was good, but I got so tired of that Ferengi dude talking about "gold plated laundum" or whatever, and by the time I got back to it, it was completely different and I didn't understand it anymore. I watched Voyager because of Seven of Nine. Newer, I haven't watched until that thing with the woman named Michael, and it got weird fast, plus it pissed me off that they had this super tech that did not exist seven years later.
I hate the Borg.
Movie #1 was super cool when it came out, but it is a piece of E36 M3, and is just Star Trek because of the people in it. The story and style sucked, because they were so fascinated by the special effects, they didn't bother with writing a decent story. 5 is almost as bad.
Even numbers good, odd numbers bad, although 3 is pretty decent. Christopher Lloyd was a great Klingon.
Wrath of Kahn was my fave for years, but there's chunks of Undiscovered Country that make me think it might be #1 now.
TNG movies are ok, and my fave of them, contradicting myself, is the time travel one where Picard kills the Borg queen. Or is it the one with Kirk and Picard? I don't think I've ever watched the one with the Romulan situation.
The new movie series was pretty good, although the last one was a bit too action-ey.
There. My inner geek is satisfied.
