Not my accomplishment, but I'm still kinda proud.

My grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this weekend.

They renewed their vows. And my grandfather finally got a wedding band. (He did not want a ring when they got married because he was a navy pilot, and had gotten a ring wedged in a throttle quadrant once, and nearly crashed because of it.)

That's wonderful - congratulations to them.

A few years before my grandparents passed away, my grandfather and I were puttering around in his garage. He confided the following to me:

"You know, your grandmother and I have been married for 63 years now. Touch and go if we make it to 64! (wink)"

My parents celebrated their 62nd anniversary in September. I have my fingers crossed that they get to celebrate a few more together. Both are in reasonably good health, but my Mom may have the beginnings of Alzheimer's. When you talk to her, she doesn't always understand you...or hear you, correctly. But when you talk louder, she complains she doesn't like to be shouted at. My father has very bad arthritis, but a new pain pill he was put on has given him A LOT of new energy....you nearly have to nail him to the floor to keep him from overdoing the physical stuff. In September, we powerwashed his house, and when I wasn't looking, he climbed a ladder to the roof to wash off some moss that had accumulated there.

Both my folks come from families where their sisters and brothers lived well into their 80s. My grandparents? Made it into their 70s.

I'm pretty sure my grandmother will be able to hit 100. I believe her mother did. She doesn't seem to be slowing down much, other than having had cataract surgery and refusing to drive at night.

My grandfather, who's 86... we really don't know. He's a bastard and an only child, so we don't have genetic history for him. He's still up and running around though. He can't hear worth a darn. He is diabetic, but manages it very well.

So, I'm hoping they have another while yet to go.

If mine ever expire, I'm sure not renewing them. I'm glad my wife doesn't read this board.

That is cool, though. Not many make it that long. By the time life expectancies made it reasonably possible, divorce rates made it pretty improbable.

Coincidentally, Puma is celebrating 60 years this year. You could buy them some shoes as a gift!

Puma, established in 1948, is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a series of events across the country, including three free concerts.

A cool accomplishment for your grandparents!

My parents renewed their vows on their 40th anniversary, my Mom didn't think she would be around for her 50th.

There have been times when I've visited my folks that I felt my Mom was lucky my Dad doesn't have new ammo for his guns...she really drags him close to the edge. For her, my Mom would never divorce my Dad, she has no where else to go. She made sure she "kicked out" all us kids at 18, and in the process sort of burnt the bridges behind her.

The ceremony was short, but amusing. My grandfather can barely hear and didn't understand what the minister was saying half the time. The minister asked them to hold hands and my grandfather grabbed my grandmother and starts trying to kiss her.

She's batting at him saying, "No Jim. Not yet. We're just supposed to hold hands now."
