That was smokin'
I saw Heart live, years ago when they opened for April Wine. 1976 I believe it was, had no idea who they were. They flat out blew the doors off April Wine.
Wouldn't be the first time the lead-in act upstaged the headliners.I saw Rod Stewart booed off the stage so we could have ShaNaNa back on! This was about a hundred years ago,or so.
Damn! I was impressed. That's still one of he best rock guitar riffs ever.
And along the lines of the opening act blowing away the headliner, many moons ago I went to a VanHagar concert in Philly. Alice in Chains was the opening act. Even with the poor mixing they got for their set, they still put on a better show. Sadly most of the crowd wasn't into it. And it took me about a decade to listen to any post 1984 VH after that night.

Yea, AIC's mix of hard rock and acoustic is great, even if the lyric content is rather "dark".
I've gone to concerts headlined by Chuck Berry and Huey Lewis and the News; the respective opening acts were Ted Nugent (and the Amboy Dukes), and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Guess which ones stole the show.
Also saw Fleetwood Mac play warm-up for Deep Purple (Machine Head tour). This was pre-BuckingNicks, but Mac was a damn good blues/folk/rock band. Find and listen to the original, full-length version of "Oh Well, and be awed.........
I was just wondering what happened to Gretchen. I haven't heard anything new of hers in quite a while.

The Green Manalishi with the two prong crown. All night dragging us up or your brining us down.
Yea, I'm a little familiar with the early Fleetwood Mac. Been getting to hear some on the satellite radio lately too.
Funny you should mention Nuge and SRV. Several years ago we saw Kenny Wayne Sheppard playing with Double Trouble, Nuge, and ZZ Top on one ticket. I would have been happy seeing any one of that set for the price we paid. All three put on great shows. I'm pretty sure all of Camden, NJ was in a brownout while Nuge was up on stage.
I'm a big ZZ Top fan, but have to admit following Nuge they seemed a bit mellow. Mellower than mellow down easy.
Back to the Wilson sisters, when I bought my '68 in my avatar there was a semi-functional cassette stereo hanging under the dash. Yes I popped Little Queen in and cranked it up (which wasn't too far on that sad little radio) to Barracuda. It seemed the right thing to do.

Looks like she released an album last year:

That reminds me of my mis-spent youth when Grand Funk Railroad was cool and LOUD.
My Dad moved the family to Georgia for his work and bought a house south of the ATL. Grand Funk was playing at on outdoor venue and you could hear them playing from 4-5 miles away.........
I also saw Crack the Sky play warm-up for Cheap Trick at a club venue in south Jersey. Can't say they were better because I didn't bother staying for the headliners. Once a Crack-head, always a Crack-head.
Was finally able to watch this last night. Damn. Awesome. Had to listen to it again. I liked how Jerry Cantrell stayed pretty close to the original, but somehow just played it better.
It was also fun watching/listening to some of the older Heart versions from the 70's up until a few years ago. I have to admit, Gretchen's vocals were better than some of Ann's performances (especially the later ones).
I remember this absolutely blowing my mind when it first aired.
It made me think--all of the female singers with powerful voices went over to country (Wilson, Carrie Underwood, etc...) or pop (Fergie, Katy Perry, etc...). There isn't really a place for female voices like that in rock these days.
Electrifying performance. I loved how she didn't get all diva and really gave the band the spotlight in a lot of places. Too good.
