This new Fusion looks promising. I love the Aston Martin influence.
Looks like a 6spd option as well

I just drove it. Really nice car. Drove it in upper trim as well as base with stick – really handled the mountain roads well.

About the same as previous. Not exactly Taurus/500 size, but not as snug as a Fukus. Very close to Impala/Malibu in size.
AFAIK the only way to get the stick is with the mid-level SE trim with the 1.6L EcoBoost. There's a sweet pseudo-sports pack that you can order on it though.

Well, Ford does own Aston...

Did.
but the guys who did the work apparently had some influence from the AML designers. It's not quite a direct knockoff, but the nose is pretty darned close.
I don't mind it.
(I "have" an Ecoboost 1.6 w/ start stop, nice car- my commute mileage is really good, even with out SS working)
I think the last American sedan that got this much attention for styling was the Chrysler Concorde. Car mags at the time were falling all over themselves to declare it "beautiful" and "timeless."
Hopefully the Fusion wears a little better.

Really? All I remember reading about back then was how Chrysler ripped off the Camaro and how awkward-looking it was.

Dammit look what just happened. Now there's 3 pictures of a Concorde in here. This is why we cant have nice things.

you say this like it's a bad thing...
This one I actually don't like so much. It's not bad looking but I can't help but see it as a knockoff Aston and looking so similar to the Lancer as well.
I do like the look of the new Fiesta...still don't like the Snake Bite fangs on the Focus that get more prominent every year.

Flo uses it as a bed.

that's actually a Ferrari "knock off." Inentionally. A friend of mine was one of the head designers of that- he wrote a nice article of the previous version where he took liberal influence from Alfa's noses over time.
I hope this one drives a bit better. I was driving a 2011 slushbox version of the Fusion as a rental a couple months ago. The entire car felt like it was designed by a committee of accountants over lunch and the electronic throttle in it had a delay so bad that when I pushed on the gas in a corner I'd be around the corner before it gave it gas.
Loved the 1.6 with MT, it felt quite balanced and happy while we flogged it in the mountains. 2.0 is stronger, but felt a bit more nose heavy and the auto does lag a bit. Didn't try the N/A four at all. Zoo, no worries, we'll be getting the 1.6 with stick.

Like you and I had discussed previously, I don't get why they can't strap a 6-speed to the 2.0L Ecoboost. If they could build a decent AWD system to work with it, I think they could give the Audi A4 a run for its money.
I wrote on my blog a while ago about how Fords doing something right. The new Fusion is definitely another step in the right direction. I'm liking it and I'm not a huge fan of Ford.
