So, my mothers landlord asked if I would be willing to scrap the old 4.6 (I'm assuming it's a 4.6) from his 2001 mustang and there was something I wanted to know about it first, specifically the aluminum heads. ( the block is useless pig iron since he blew a rod)

I think it's a single cammer, not entirely sure since I was rushing when I looked at it/did the magnet test.

How much do those heads weigh? Are they worth anything as parts? Am I going to get more money selling them or scrapping them? Do any of y'all want them?

That's more than one question as it turns out.

Usually the heads are the first item to show problems if there is an oil pressure issue. I've seen plenty with galled/scored/scrap top ends but bottom ends that sounded fine.

They are probably the PI heads, which is good, but pull some cam caps to make sure they aren't scrap metal. (Which is bad.) They are pretty heavy, though, so you will get a decent chunk of money at the recycler's. (That's good) They're not terribly fun to remove even with the engine out of the car. (That's bad.) The engine does come with a free Frogurt. (That's good) The Frogurt has potassium benzoate...

I have a new torque wrench I'm itching to play with and an impact wrench. Those heads are coming off.

So the best bet is to just say the hell with it and scrap em?

You may be able to sell PI heads to the owner of an earlier Mustang, Thunderbird, etc. They're good for 35 hp over the older non-PI heads.
