A guy I've known for years(though I wouldn't call him a "friend") stopped in my shop the other evening asking if I'd help him figure out how to install/use some software he got. The program is called Cell Spy Pro(www.cellspypro.com has the details about it). After he left & I looked at the documentation it became quickly apparent this software is completely illegal to use!. Yes, I've talked to the authorities.

My question is this: It appears the function to track calls/texts is spread much like malware, as a hidden attachment to a text message. My hunch is that smartphones - particularly Android and IOS - are probably not vulnerable to this attack. Would any of you know?

The software can also access your contacts and documents via Bluetooth, but I keep mine turned off anyway.

Honestly, it kind of scared the E36 M3 out of me to find out something like this is available to the public, and relatively cheap.

That reads like a midnight infomercial. I doubt their claims.

In any case - the people who are listening own the networks and pre-install the crap on your phone before you get it. The only real way to control your information is to install your own boot roms and encrypt all traffic. Tough to do since it requires the other end of the communication does the same.

The abilities of these phones are rapidly expanding. Soon you will be able to swipe it as a credit card. A feature I won't be using.

I wouldn't be surprised of anything. I'm also not paranoid about it all either.

Whatever that hardware or software that is. Don't berkeley with it.

As far as I can tell there are no unpatched SMS vulnerabilities in either OS right now, although both have had at least one in the past, but nothing that would allow remote code execution. It's a theoretically possible exploit though.

Smart move to avoid using NFC also. Use cash as much as possible.

Also if you don't like to see what's available to the public for cheap, you REALLY won't like what's available to those in the know for free...

Short answer: seems to only work on older Blackberries.

Thanks for the replies. At least I'm safe if these idiots ever do figure it out.
