Ever feel like you’re having a E36 M3ty week? A friend of mine’s just had the week from hell.
A couple of weeks ago he borrowed my pressure washer to clean his deck (He’s a totally non-technical guy, this was a big step) but he just can’t get the old crap paint/stain off so he called in the guy he normally gets to do work. I’d already replaced some boards for him, but there are more needed, so they agree what’s what and he signs up for $1,000 of work. That was Monday.
Tuesday he gets a bill for his out of pocket medical costs for his son, $3,000
Wednesday he goes to the dentist and has some major issues, no dental insurance, ka-Ching $5,000
Thursday, no E36 M3ting, his son and a friend are playing in the front room with a baseball bat (been told not to do that before) and put the bat right through the TV Screen, not worth claiming on insurance due to deductible and future rates. Wham, $450.
So in 4 days he’s suddenly got almost $10k in bills.
I don’t think he’s leaving the house today, instead I’ve recommended he goes to bed and locks the door.
Karma isn’t working, he’s recently done something very very generous to help someone else out with nothing in it for him, and instead of getting good E36 M3 back from the universe he’s getting E36 M3 on.

The story would make a little more sense if the $450 TV charge happened the day before the $3000 medical bill for his son.
(I don't condone child abuse, I just make poor jokes about it on internet car forums.)

That is a no E36 M3 sentiment.

Karma is one of the few religious concepts that, in theory, could be scientifically disproven. And personally I'm pretty sure it would be.

I'm not so sure. I think a study that wasn't carefully designed might actually "prove" it but it wouldn't be proving anything metaphysical. Having a positive mindset and doing good things has a positive benefit to a person's health, due to the reduction in stress. You also build up a lot of good will with friends and family when you help them out. So you have better health, a better support network, and less people out there hating you. Your life will improve in almost every measurable way with more people helping you. Is that "karma?"

Well, we are a social species..I wonder if "karma" was just an ancient superstitious people's way of trying to explain a natural biological process.

Call your buddy's wife. Tell her to send the kids to grandma's for the night, buy him a good bottle of scotch, and she can let him pick the entertainment for the night. It won't make the problems go away, but it sure as hell makes them tolerable for a few hours.
and while I do believe in Karma
... bad E36 M3 happens to good people
... and sometimes in bunches

FYI, that's not the type of stuff you can claim on insurance. The structure and the contents in it have two different kinds of coverage applied.
Hopefully your friend will have a better week, next week!
Is karma that girl over there? or is her name Carmen?
It's said that troubles come in threes so he's over his quota. Yeah, give the poor bastard a bottle of good Scotch; he's earned it.
