Watched this afternoon's game.   Reminded me of Arena football.  Better than nothing but still Lite Beer...

Really? How?

The quality of the players simply isn't up to NFL standards.  I know it's not fair to hold it to that standard and it's only the second weekend for the league, but ultimately I think the league is going to have to decide whether to fixate on the "veteran trying to claw his way back" or the "unknown UDFA trying to make it" narrative.  I think the latter will be more popular, which inherently means we'll be watching guys who didn't get drafted/signed and who can't get a Practice Squad contract with a current NFL team.  It'll take some time for it to gel and I'm keeping an open mind as I hope some of the coaches are willing to try something really different.  Maybe they'll surprise me.

Well, it is a developemental league for the NFL basically so its not really an apples vs apples there. Its like watching minor league baseball or college level sports

I don't watch college sports, except lacrosse, so I don't have a ton to compare it to there.  But I've been to a bunch of minor league baseball games and I would say the AAF is far worse.  I tried to watch it, I really did.  It just makes me cringe.  When the QB is Christian Hackenberg, and going into the 4th quarter he is something like 5 for 18 for 60 yards, it's time to change the channel.

Even the coaches are old retreads.  Mike Martz?  C'mon....

And...after just 2 weeks, they needed a $250 million cash infusion to pay players

Thats definitely not good

I'm not so sure it's "bad".   My guess is they weren't sure of whether it would be well received and were holding financing until they knew it was worth making a major investment.  If it had the stink of failure after the opening weekend they probably would have packed it in and were holding that $250M until they knew it was viable.  He probably got a significant share of ownership of the league in exchange for his cash.  Just a thought.

You are probably right there, although not great press either
