Going from the Reddit thread it sounds like the suspects escaped the scene. This could easily be another Boston manhunt...

It sounds like it started a holiday party attended by county employees in a rented conference room. Which would make the event largely unknown to the outside public.

My statement was largely in jest, but there is a deeper point there. I'm certainly not the type to say that America needs a nationwide gun ban or anything like that, having owned firearms myself in the past; I'm just fresh off of a thanksgiving weekend where my ex-military uncle earnestly tried to convince me over a few beers that Sandy Hook, Aurora, etc were perpetrated by agents of the government as part of some scheme to repeal the second amendment or some crap. Let's just say that we didn't see eye to eye; unfortunately there are a LOT of people that actually, honestly believe that nonsense.
