I am sure Hess won't mind me paraphrasing his statement for effect. His rep can handle saying he said something factual.

We're still playing nicely here, right? Because only someone who deserves a kick in the dick would post that after repeated exhortations to keep it civil.
Seriously, there are a lot of forums that would welcome another internet tough guy. This just isn't one of them.
Thank you.

I should never have said the "kick in the dick" things in the first place. I said it out of shock and sadness that we as a country aren't doing anything about this kind of thing, and frustration with the people who still won't stand up and at least try to come up with a solution after an event like this.
I understand that emotions run high here.
Let's just remember that if we can't actually talk about things amongst ourselves--being a largely like-minded, sharp group of well-intentioned people--then we're screwed in hoping for any sort of larger conversation. And abandoning all effort in the belief that we ARE screwed is the best way possible to create a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Baby steps...

As a country, we will never agree on a proper course of action. The situation is too polarized to be discussed in a civil manner by either side. Our leaders don't lead, they just egg on the fight for votes. The snide condescending remarks just make it worse. The conservatives are tired of the constant erosion of constitution and have drawn a line in the sand, they will not willingly cross, and I don't blame them. It's a slippery slope.
The gun control advocates and the media have done nothing but increase gun sales to record levels. 185K on black Friday alone.
Personally, I don't think it's a gun problem, as much as it's a culture problem. Fixing that starts at home.

I respectfully disagree with all of this but two parts. Fixing it starts at home and leaders aren't leading they are just pandering for votes. Those are two truths that no one can respectfully argue.
Conservatives are the ones that have eroded the freedoms in this country. From the Patriot Act, to voter restrictions, to Citizens United. Conservatives care about 1 part of the Constitution and one part only and that is the portion they have drawn a line in the sand over.
An EDITED 2nd Amendment. That's it.
Now this isn't a tit for tat as your run of the mill liberal ignores many parts of the Constitution as well, but let's not kid ourselves in a false diatribe that the average American Conservative is a Constitutionalist. They are far from it.

Only WRT the second amendment. Conservatives do a great job of eroding other rights, too.
It's all about control.
