He's my hero. A philosophical genius of the ages. And I'm not talking about comedy. I've been a fan for years, but lately he's been excelling. I saw him tonight on cable. I won't say the host or the network. PM me if you want to know. Thoughts?

He had a contractor show and it was good. He also restored his childhood home and did well too.
When he did that man show I thought he was a tool but at this point I like his stuff.
It's my favorite podcast and I met him once, he was very nice. He is a comedic genius and I am not talking about his ability to write comedy, I am talking about how he just comes up with funny ideas or concepts out of thin air. Proof is how he does this bit called "Adam Carolla unprepared" where audience members write a word on a ping pong ball and they are all put in a hopper. Somebody pulls the balls out and Adam just makes up something funny on the spot-it's amazing! I sponsor a local Comedy Battle Royal and they have a similar concept where audience members write ideas on slips of paper that are then randomly selected by comedians. I have never seen a comic come up with anything as funny as Adam. His documentaries are excellent as well. His latest is "Uppity" and it's on Netflix now.

I did enjoy his contractor show, Vanilla Ice had another surprisingly decent contractor show. I feel like that tandem would be a solid panel of contrasting style for the Radwood portion of the challenge, but both would bring an area of expertise to the realm of Radwood. Can we make this happen?
In that picture Adam Corolla looks like he's taking the selfie with loose cannon, and not the other way around!

He came up to me and said "You're the guy who put a V12 in an MGB? I need a picture with you to show my wife"

To explain this a bit more, he is a very pragmatic type of person that some people interpret as political (which has hurt him career wise), but it really isn't,
Great taste in cars, very good at improvisational comedy, has a unique type of memory / observational style. He is also surprisingly an excellent interviewer, very quick to see through things and very insightful. A rather unique personality. He definitely can be an ass, but that is a bit of a schtick also (the Man Show stuff was very much schtick). Interestingly (and probably what helps him in interviews) is he is almost completely unflappable, it seems to be almost impossible to fluster him.
I know some disagree, but he would have made Top Gear USA WAY more interesting / funny. He did do a pilot, and Rutlidge was good, but he would have been a WAY better choice than Ferrara. I would be interested in what sort of car show he would do (although there is a bit of a glut of those now)
In reply to aircooled :
He did one called The Car Show. It was ok, but that was 10 years ago when Top Gear was king.
The first issue of GRM I ever read, I bought in the Denver International Airport in 2004. It was this one:
I read it cover to cover on my flight to Seattle. I have always liked Adam. He seems like a genuine person. I didn't learn of his love of motorsports until well after The Man Show stopped airing.
We need to add something to the thread title. I've clicked on this thread at least 3 times to read up on the replies, and even with that prior knowledge, I still think he might be dead.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly for those reasons. For me personally it goes beyond that.
I'm doing OK for an old retired guy. But I think about what it'd be like having the big financial means to buy multiple items of the expensive things I'd like to have without ruining my retirement. Some guys that do have the means just seem to do the right things, in my opinion. Adam does this. Jay does it. PLN did it too. And others. Briggs Cunningham did it exceptionally well back in the thirties, forties, fifties and sixties. Yes, spend your money well.
He's a good dude. He fought and won a crucial and expensive battle with the patent trolls that saved podcasting for everyone. I like what he's been doing with documentaries, and I think what he and Drew did with the loveline show was important.
In reply to Carbon :
Oh man, I totally forgot about Loveline! Adam and Dr. Drew. That show was highly educational to my adolescent self.

I love it when people ask how to describe someone and the first thing you think of is "smart" in italics in your brain.
His Dr. Drew show- even though I only watched random clips on youtube- also was great for me when I was an adolescent, too. I need to listen to him more
Also... holy crap, Loosecannon DOES look like his avatar.

Used to listen to it every night at 11 Pm on my bedside radio ....
them and TOM Leykis and Howard stern
aah the good ole days
Adam still does work with Dr Drew. I'm a big fan of both their work. In fact Dr Drew has been on a big kick lately. He does daily shows as well as two weekly podcasts.
I'm thinking Adam, Dave Coleman and a GRM staff member do a live broadcast podcast that's like loveline for people with stupid automotive bench build ideas where they break down what you'd need in order to make it work and the biggest hurdles to address.
I'd listen to every minute.
In reply to captdownshift :
Would you still listen to it if it was a podcast by forum members? I've been thinking of that sort of thing, I volunteer as a host- or I'll pitch the terrible ideas, either way.
It would be cool if GRM did a podcast with Adam. I like his story coming from very humble beginnings and his nonsense philosophy on being successful.
Loveline for cars, yes! It could build off of that PBS show, Click and Clack, which has been gone for a while now.
Regarding Loveline, he is also an excellent example of experience versus training. Since he did the show for so long, he can spot issues from a mile away with some people. E.g. when he talks to an overly sexually promiscuous woman he always asks who molested them as a child. They eventually will admit what happened...
Drew has had some excellent observation about the homeless situation and is quite upset about it. Not revolutionary mind you, just wildly obvious answers if you bother to ask someone who actually knows about the problems at hand.
