AI Appreciation Day

So I got this email today and this is just so messed up and so so very wrong. 

As one of my employees asked me:

"Are we now going to have to be careful not to hurt the feelings of our computers?" 

WTF is wrong with people?  HAL 9000 and or the Terminators will become a real problem if we keep this bit of crazy going.

While every day is a special marketing event for something, this one is an entire new level of stupid.  The current form of "AI" is snake oil.  I work in tech, and the only impact the current crop of "AI" has had so far is distracting a lot of people from the real work that needs to be done while they desperately seek a use case for these tools in their business.  Managaers are terrified they will be seen as missing the boat so they are ignoring real needs to try to find a use for "AI".

I have used Chat GPT for research for some procedure documents I needed to write.  I described the subject matter and asked for a document outline.  It spit one out which I then used to write my document using a few more questions to the app for filler material.  The output wasn't perfect.  I had to add and/or rename the outline headers, and modify/add to the summaries, but it still saved me some time.

I used to think the same until watching this LinkedIn training. I also work in tech, but we are a very small company. We only did $54 billion in revenue for FY 24.

Watch the link I shared. You have to use much longer prompts than I would have imagined and then you can get some really great output.
