Not much about his condition, but he's out of the hospital at least

I wish I knew a different word for "prayers" that applies when I'm an atheist.

Alex Zanardi is my hero, and I really hope he can come back to some sort of rewarding life.

If you haven't read his book, you need to.

Dude is legend.

I mean this is a positive and most complimentary way. He is the toughest sob on the planet.

The mental drain around week 6-10 of an extended treatment and recovery is staggering. The number of visitors and calls drops off significantly, regardless of fame. You fall out of people's thoughts as their lives move on and move forward, while you keep grinding for hours a day in occupational therapy with the staff becoming your sounding board.

Now consider doing that for a second time in your life. During a pandemic where the isolation is even more severe.

Tough as nails does not even begin to describe the man. He simply does not allow for anything to dictate what he's able to accomplish or persevere. The endurance of his ambition is staggering. Commendable doesn't even begin to describe it. There's no gesture that I'd be able to make that would be able to express my appreciation for him as an individual who I've never had communication with. But there are times when your life feels like it's complete E36 M3 where you just have to pause and ask yourself, "What would Alex do?".

That's why I coined "best of luck and medical science".

And yes, the man is indomitable. I wish him, well, you know.

Ok, I'll have to look into this.

I dont know much about him - great racer who, if I understand correctly, had a bad accident that left his lower half paralyzed and he's now return to motorsports after doing paraolympic sort of stuff, yes?

In reply to hybridmomentspass :

Left him without legs from well above the knee.  Came back to win several paralympic medals at a couple of events, the ran head first into a truck while training, and he's in bad shape from a head injury.

I need to buy the book, I have followed him since the early indycar days in f1 and back to indycar then to sportscars. The guy is amazing.

My grandfather who passed away this year was a big fan of his. He was so excited when Alex Zanardi was at the Rolex 24 in 2019 and I had a chance to see/take a picture of him through a fence in the pit area.

I wanted to call him when I heard the news about his recovery the other day and I guess here is about as good a place as any to lament not being able to do that.

Definitely rooting for him to make a full recovery. A legend indeed.

Managed to grab this at a flee market earlier this year. Guy is a beast and in the words of Duke, wish him  "best of luck and medical science".
