Don't see too many of these out there, and man do I want it!
My friend just sold his perfect bought when new S4 avant... Red, just gorgeous. I think it was a 2001, or thereabouts.
Joey
I've always wanted one too... and priced low enough I wouldn't care about beating on it doing auto-x & rally-x... I was just about to send a note and then I realized it's an auto-tragic... Oh well...
On the plus side, being an automatic, it possibly hasn't been abused as much as manual cars often are.

Man. I wish I had known that. I had a 2000 S4 sedan and would love a wagon. Red is my color too.
My buddy bought one because he's an Audi guy and it was his Unicorn. It was an Imola yellow S4 Avant. It was an awesome car. He loved that car so much and one day he sold it out of the blue. He told me he didn't want to have deal with the maintenance cost. That confused me because he had every possible Audi resource to deal with any issue. He knew people and if he didn't he knew people who knew people.
I think it had something to do with his fiance. He started selling off all his cars, except his race car, then bought a base automatic Rabbit, which was not something he would do.

Same here. I'm just glad the one posted is an automatic - makes it easier for the "fear" to outweigh the "lust".

Werd. So much AWD turbo wagon goodness with great styling (IMO), a sweet Audi interior, German solidity, big power potential. But also so much potential breakage, overcomplication, and early 2000s Audi quality.
I sort of feel like if I'm going to have to put up with unreliability and big repair bills, I better be driving something Italian.

Yeah, I have a bad feeling a manual turbo AWD wagon is going to find me on a weak day...
It's not THAT much of a unicorn -- there are four listed on cars.com right now (all silver, and all automatic). The manual is what makes them really rare.
Living with Mrs. Motomoron's B5 A4 2.8Q/M taught me all I needed to know.
It's an Audi, it has a great interior, it drives OK but a little heavy feeling, it understeers, you'll die the death by a thousand electrical cuts. When it needs timing belts/all 37 control arms/a clutch, you'll either rent a backhoe and bury it in the back yard, buy a lift and spend your entire vacation doing the work, or double the original purchase price having someone else do the work - which you'll have to re-do at least partially.
I ~wanted~ an S4 avant. Preferably Nogaro blue, manual.
I bought a 525iT manual. 30mpg hwy, drives like my e36 M3 turned down to about 6, never, ever see another one like it, I can fix it.

He's blonde, blue eyed, freakin adorable, already gets the concept of driving a manual, and he's under the age of 2, so still not set in a lot of ways. Make me an offer lol.

I owned a '98 2.8Q Avant for a short time...
Damn you....

Of course, my trust in BMW's isn't really much - if any - greater than in Audis... My E30 has made my A4 look reliable.
If it were a manual it would be more of a Unicorn. They are more common than I thought apparently, but THESE are still a Unicorn right?

OH BERK YOU! The only things that would make that better would be sport seats, grey leather, and red paint.
