I've been on Smugmug for 12 or 13 years. Well worth the money. Have had zero real problems. Couple minor things years ago that were promptly addressed by their staff. Great outfit.
I've been looking into this as well. I hate photobucket, and many of the other hosting sites (like google drive and photos) don't let you link to photos on many forums.
Solution? I made a private album on Facebook. If FB has a photo limit, I certainly haven't heard about it. Its free, I put my photos in that album and no one can see them, and it lets me link them into all the forums I frequent. Like this titillating gem:

I didn't know links to FB pictures would work, although I see the one posted. A concern is I've heard FB has an annoying habit of changing the address in such a way that while it looks fine on FB, outside links get berked.
So far, I'm dealing with Flickr. Just uploaded about 100 pictures off my phone that have been on there for ages.

It's not immediately obvious, but to share images directly, like here on grm, you use imgur.com/theshortcodeofyourimage.jpg.
The shortcode is something like 74d6xDq and adding the file format extension you want is important, or it will link you to the imgur page, not the image (for example http://imgur.com/74dlxDq vs http://i.imgur.com/74dlxDq.jpg vs http://i.imgur.com/74dlxDq.png). You can resize on the fly, by appending a code (s,b,t,m,l or h) to the end of the shortcode of your image. For example http://i.imgur.com/74dlxDqm.jpg
Sort of figured out imgur. Managed to post a pic here so I'll keep at it in the future. E-mails to Photobuckets help just bounce back and there are notes from other users having the same issue I am. Now being called Photoberkleyit.
I end up with most stuff in Google photos because most is taken with my phone and I don't have to do anything... But then downloading and re-uploading to Flickr for stuff I want to link here. And then Yahoo goes and spills billions of logins again... Maybe it's worth playing with smugmug or imgur...
