Nope, "blown tranny" is about as close to right as I can get to come out of my mouth.
Yeah, I keep thinking the alternate meaning as well. As in "Do I need to know about your private life?"

A tranny is what you land on. 
I can see the aversion, but the shopspeak abbreviation has been around longer than the he/she gender terminology, so I defer to tradition and just say "tranny." If I get a giggle, so be it.

I agree wholeheartedly.
I usually just go with "trans." However, the immaturity that stems from the use of "tranny" can be valuable in its own right too.

So it irritates you when someone uses one abbreviation because it reminds you of another abbreviation?
I just say "trans" If I'm with an inmature friend, I'll say tranny, and get a smile/giggle, which is expected. Oh well, I'm smiling to myself right now just thinking about saying tranny
I use the abbreviations.
I consistently get lectured by a service writer at the dealer i work at for recommending "tranny services" or a simple drain and fill/flush. He says it's politically incorrect...my argument is "I didn't know transmissions were so sensitive to their gender issues."
I usually say transmission or gearbox, saying you are doing a tranny swap sounds more like you are planning to attend an annual adult event in san francisco than work on your car.
Honestly could care less.
I think your head is too focused on man girls and not enough on metal.
On a related note, if someone is going to insist on calling an engine a "Motor" in writing, the least they can do is spell it correctly, not "Moter."
If one was thinking about girls, hopefully this subject would not be one of the ones that would come up. lol

While the spelling thing may be dumb, there is nothing wrong with calling an engine a motor.
An engine is a type of motor. A motor is no more then something that converts energy into motion.

Has an issue with the use of the word tranny.
I've been trying to curtail my use of that phrase, due to a mild wince when I type it, but really, we gearheads had it first. I guess the cross gender crowd can have it.
I might say tranny meaning transmission, but never thought it was funny or even mildly ammusing. I'm more likely to say gearbox instead of either though. Does slushbox offend anyone?
I also will say or type dizzy for distributor.
I can't stand motor when they mean engine.
I don't like when people type break when they mean brake or sale when when they mean sell.
