So there is a new show on the Discovery Channel called "Lords of the Car Hoards" and it is total crap. Whoever keeps giving the go ahead on crap TV like this needs a new job in the mail department.

The first episode was with a guy who has Corvairs. One of the hosts was pissed off what they found because he thought they were looking for Corvettes and proceeded to tell the other host that Corvairs are Vagina cars, which I'm actually surprised Discovery allowed to be aired.

That proceeded to piss off most of the online Corvair community. The Corvair boards are buzzing about this. Some folks are all "It's just entertainment for the masses" and most everyone else has already written the show off.

If you haven't seen it, it's a show about an ex-WWE wrestler that has a passion for cars and a douchebag car customizer that go around the country to people who hoard cars. They basically make a deal with them to rebuild one of the cars if they scrap the rest. Honestly, it's crap, just like 98% of the reality shows out there.

Here is more info on the show, you can see a lot of the hate in the comments: http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/lords-of-the-car-hoards/about/about.htm

Saw it last night. If that skeezy child molester looking d- bag showed up at my house ito tell me I had to sell all my cars (had to be 20 or so in that case) to get his help with one of them it would be a short episode.

I watched the first episode and it was complete made up drama BS with lots of screaming. So I won't be watching any more.

And yes, they pissed me off with the Corvair dissing.

It was pretty bad, and I really did not like the "fixed up" Greenbrier they created. That designer guy comes off as a total a-hole. Uhm, yes, the Corvair has NO style eh? They never showed the owners cool yellow coupe either (you can spot it in the driveway at the beginning of the show) which is a nice triple Weber equipped car.

I was actually interested to see how they would get enough money out of a pile of old Corvairs to put some real money into fixing one (as most are aware, poor condition Crovairs are almost worthless), but they didn't really go into that. (What really happened is the owner sold off a few cars before the show got there)

If you want to read a bit of the real back story, the guy who contacted the show posted some info here:

Biggest change? The wrestler dufus did NOT put up the money for the convertible, it was the OWNER!

I watched a couple minutes of the second episode, until they 'accidentally' dropped a 1940 Ford pickup off of a forklift. Everyone knows the drama on those shows is manufactured but this was so obvious it wasn't funny.

The interesting thing is Rick Dore (the car guy in the show, not the wrestler) has a huge reputation in the custom car world for his work, but after watching this show he just comes across as a d-bag. I can't imagine it's doing his reputation any good.

The plot of the show is that they did a lot of work to clean up a guys yard, restored two cars for the guy, and lost $5K on the deal overall. Sounds like a good business model to me.

Sounds like TV! Time to add the product tie-ins!

Wait, they scrap the rest? Why would a car guy do that?

I like the idea of the show just not the execution. It would be the perfect job for me as I like to help people get rid of items, they are not using. If its sitting rusting, collecting dust and deteriorating, either scrap it sell or sell it to someone who will actually do something with it.

Ill just stick to Chasing Classic Cars and Legendary Motorcars.

Graveyard cars isnt bad when they stick to the actual restoration and technical stuff. As soon as the 'characters' deviate into the interpersonal crap the show E36 M3s the bed pfq.

I've figured out the deal with Graveyard cars. It's all product placement, the cars and "restoration tips" are just window dressing. The whole show is just a commercial for their sponsors, like the segment where Mark gave the team new Matco toolboxes, nice enough, till he shows off his new toolbox which was the size of a Semi trailer.. The interpersonal stuff just saves them from having to actually write a script, I don't think any self-respecting writer could come up with stuff that bad.

I figured it would be garbage but watched it just to make sure. Changed the channel after he said corvettes are penis cars and corvairs are vagina cars.

Well, you got to have some eye candy. Can't be on TV without it, I think it's a law..

I still want to do a semi-reality based show based in Automotive Dealership and call it "The Drive".

Too much happens around these places for there not to be a show from it.

I didn't like the Corvair they did either, nor did I like the show. Most of the new crop such as Graveyard Cars where they argue all the time is an instant channel change in my house. Didn't they learn from Speed?

I would watch the crap out of that.

Add in Wally and J.G. among others and you'd have a hell of a message board, er, TV show!

Usually self respect and reality TV travel in different circles.
