the scammers are getting trickier and trickier (FWIW, I've never heard of these folk … the last time I had utilities in my name … 1975)

odd.. around here Gas and Electricity are two separate entities.
Did you forward that to PG&E ?
who is PG&E anyway? I did some work years ago for PSE&G, but that was Pennsylvania

pacific gas and electric. They are certainly in most of the well populated areas in northern California.
You're forgetting about the real PG&E:

nope … I've gotten "unable to deliver" returns on most of the "report abuse/fraud" forwarded e-mails I've sent in the last yr or so …. seems that most co.
a) already know about these
b) don't want to be bothered by us, the recipients
c) figure if we're dumb enough to fall for the scams it's not their fault (not really … but with all the reject e-mails I get [when I google their fraud complaint e-mail address] I start to wonder if they actually do care)
edit: I looked up PG&E and on their contact us page it warns of this actual e-mail

Why would PG&E want to get involved in assisting in managing a scam that was not generated by them, and has no impact on them?
If they try to help and fail, they will take the heat from the victims (who are not even their customers).
If it fails, it will be meaningless to them.
If it becomes successful (as a scam), law enforcement will handle it.
They've posted a warning to their customers. That's all they are obligated to do.
I got one of those PG&E "bills" this morning and deleted it - odd they'd be billing an NC resident.

sorry Paul, what I meant was, it would seem to me that a company would want to go after the scammers, as it "LOOKS" bad for them if someone gets burned by one of the scams (you know … the someone has to be at fault … because I did something stupid … attitude prevalent in this country now)
(I didn't look up PG&E until someone pointed out that they actually exist
)
and more on point, I was referring to other scams I receive (as much as I like you… Chase, I'm looking at you) that post a e-mail addy to report scams and then the addy turns out to be bogus)

Chris, PG&E isn't billing anyone … these are scammers .. I'm sure that if you were to click on the here, there would be some way for them to get your/our banking info
I recognized it as a scam, and not a very good one.

Most companies that I've heard from want you to forward attempting phishing scams to a designated email address so they can track the different variants, etc.
interesting.. we must have the same house.. I got an online bill from PG&E today for that same amount ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/evil-18.png)
i don't know if i got that email... 99% of every email i get goes straight to the spam folder, where it is deleted without me ever looking at it. one thing about yahoo mail: after 14 years or so of having the same email address, the spam filter is pretty well dialed in...

I suppose this is one reason why I still get all of my bills via snail-mail. I pay them all online, but I still want an actual paper bill for my records. I haven't gotten one of these scam e-mails, but they may get intercepted by the spam filters.

on their web site (PG&E that is) … that's the online bill that they show … so the spammers must have only one bill to send out

I get all my bills via snail mail also .. these folk are just shotgunning to purchased e-mail list .. and in my case I'm pretty sure it's the e-mail provider themselves that sold the list

They track them, but they are not going to get involved.
It's for their benefit (protecting their brand, shareholders, etc), not yours.
