What is the world coming to ?

The teenage perpetrator was apprehended and charged with petit larceny.

The teens motives were unclear.

Strange to see a teenager so politically motivated.

Don't judge, maybe they needed coroplast for his/her project car.

We used to do that. No political motivation, we just thought it was funny. We would see how many we could get in one night then put them all in one yard. My guess is probably the same story here.

I have always wondered about taking signs from public areas, like intersections and the roadside and such. No one had permission to put the sign there, so is it a crime to take it? And what if I just don't like looking at that mess, can I just take it down? People usually just leave them there anyway and never come back for them.

I'd do it after the election. It's a freedom of speech to put up a sign, but it's a suppression of speech to take them down.

Here in Canada the people who put them there are pretty good at having them gone like the day after the election. Not sure if penalties of just part of this whole thing where Canadians don't seem to be dicks.

In Atlanta it's illegal to put any ad for anything at all on the public right of way. Period. Yard sale, junk car buyer, or politician. I think it hilarious that the sheriff elected to enforce the law has signs posted illegally like that.

An acquaintance in highschool thought getting high and smashing things was fun.

Then one day he smashed a window with a Menorah in it. DA was Jewish. Hate crime charges and 5 years in jail.

Point being. Youth = bountiful stupidity

Seems to be an equal amount of stupidity on the part of the DA in that case (assuming, of course, the kids intent was only to get high and smash something.)

Kid in my high school decided to go streaking through the school on senior skip day. Kid got caught and the administration tried to have him branded as a sex offender. Seriously people?

Point being, the bountiful stupidity of youth should not be excused, but also needs to be taken in context. Labeling a high school kid doing stupid things as a racist perpetrator of a hate crime or a sex offender is ridiculous and only cheapens the labels for those heinous individuals truly deserving of them.

And now I'm way off topic...

It didn't help that they caught the kid and his cronies with a scrap book of newspaper clippings and notes about all of their exploits.

Seems like they would need to prove it was done BECAUSE they were Jewish. Of course, breaking glass of a Jewish persons house at night DOES produce some bad memories / history ( look up "kristallnacht" )

Like you note, probably more to do with the breadth of there well documented stupidity then some perceived hate crime.

Menorah in the window would be all the "proof" necessary, likely.
