I perused a few aviation message boards looking for information on my modified sailplane. I finally registered on one so I could ask a question. It worked well, the builder came forward and talked about what he did and about others with the same mods. There are only two like mine. He was going to fly it in the Nationals in 1982 but a month before the event, they (whoever they are) tweaked the rules and he was not allowed to compete.
I thanked him and told him the glider found a good home and is doing well.
What I didn't know is that every post is filtered by a Moderator before being put up. If they're sleeping, you have to wait for them to see what you wrote.
With the angst in some political threads, I see their point.
Fast forward a month...
A young person asked for a link or information on how to pass the written pilot exams. Someone posted his name, business and he would be happy to take her $1400 to coach her on-line through the test.
I posted a link to a test, it's ten random questions similar to those on the tests.
I haven't been to the site for a few weeks, I visited yesterday.
BAM! You have been banned.
Wow. I've never been banned, I don't know how to feel. I assume, because I was not told why I was banished; but I assume in the three paragraphs of verbage you're supposed to read before clicking "I agree" there is something about linking.
Oh well. I have my information.
Thank you Margie for your patience and thank you fellow GRMers for being you (for better or worse).
Dan
That forum is probably moderated by the same shiny happy holes who creep out in the night to measure your lawn in the dark, hoping for a 2cm breach of the home owners association guidelines for turf maintenance bylaws, so they can feel self important when they turn the nefarious perpetrator in to the proper authorities.
Yeah but if you take a coffee can with holes in the bottom, fill it with a lawn fertilizer high in nitrogen (makes the grass wicked greener) and spell out obscenities on their lawn in the dead of night; you'll feel better.

The Moderator was probably the one who offered to coach the person for $1400!

Disposable, indeed. Who needs 'em?
I got smacked at Miatanet once. Here's my infraction:
- You have received an infraction at MX-5 Miata Forum.
Reason: Inappropriate Language
Offering to sell parts is not allowed on the forum, please use the classifieds. Thanks!
This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire. *
Some guy mentioned that his fan wasn't working. I said, "I may have a used one, let me take a look and get back to you."
In reply to Woody:
Well, then I can see why they banned you.
Heck Woody, I'd ban you too. In fact, I started a message board last night just so I could ban you. If you ever need information on rare Teletubbies you CANNOT post on my message board!
Back to our original programming. Pilot, that's stoopid. While I'd be irritated, I think I'd be glad I don't fit in with that crowd.
The banned hammer was struck down on me on VWstancetex
I can't say I've ever been banned from anywhere (except those restraining orders from a few years ago, and the statue of limitations on those has expired ).
People moderate forums like they drive. Some are really good at it, most aren't.
Hard to believe, but I was banned from this forum

There is a local forum in Indianapolis that people get banned from for actually knowing things......I was banned(along with several others) for posting their logo over the backdrop of hitler.......pretty amusing really

Was your infraction a crotch shot, political rant or [other]?
I hate when forums get all bent out of shape at the slightest hint of stepping on their advertiser's toes.
Last I checked crownvic.net no longer has private classifieds, only forums for their sponsors. So I have this small pile of used panther parts that is all of a sudden much harder to get rid of and I have no use for.
EDIT. well because I thought about it I went back and checked. something something something I just have to make 1 post to get my post count to register properly then I can sell my stuffs.

That was Per, not me, and I don't remember why it happened. But I do know Per's a very good driver.

Wasn't I banned from TeamSwift at least once if not twice?
Anytime I've been banned (or had an account suspended for X amount of time), it's always been over the dumbest thing and usually a mod getting right bent out of shape.
In reply to failboat:
I used to be on that forum, but stopped posting because the people there (more specifically those with big box Crown Vics) didn't like anything I wanted to do with my car and got insulted a couple times.
If it wasn't modding a 302 or installing P71 suspension, nobody liked what you were doing.

Some of us had business links in our sigs, and there was an announcement that it would no longer be allowed. Mine was (the only one) deleted so I put it back in a sneaky way, and got caught. I poked the bear and lost, but that's how I roll. I was invited back, because deep down, I know Per loves me

And I often learn something inexpensive but very useful. I can think of a number of places this will prove helpful in the future, starting with a nice Police Ahead message down the road.
I haven't been banned from anywhere, but I was disallowed membership to a z car forum for no apparent reason
I still haven't figured that one out...
Never banned my self. Then again I think I have maybe 10 posts on neons.org making up my entire non-GRM forum existence.
I have had a few pissing matches on here, but nothing worth escalating.
I've been banned from a few places, but only because I was a dumbass trying to troll them. My fault, not theirs.
One of Honda Accord Forums get all anal if you don't search the entire forum before asking a question.
I like to kick hornet nests......
