I have an antique Waltham pocket watch that I am trying to find an approx. value for. I know there was someone on here who worked with watches, but a search didn't turn anything up. Thanks in advance!

open the case and there's are several numbers you'll need, including how many jewels are in the movement.

This is the inside of my Waltham. Note the numbers. You can look up your watch using that serial number.

Already done that. From this site: http://www.nawcc-info.org/WalthamDB/LookupSN.asp

It is dated between 1898 to 1902 (early serial # though). Model 1894, Sterling Silver, 15 Jewel, Size 12, 3/4 plate, EX balance, Open face, etc. I've seen several like it, however none of them have had the porcelain face decoration like this one. It has a lot of gold decorations around the outer edge, 1/2 circles around each number, and some leafs under the name above the center. It is in working order too.

Here I am. I guess I should put something in my profile? The waltham will depend on quality of movement and case material.

The Case could be a base metal alloy with a silver colour, Gold filled (a base metal with a thin layer of gold on the surfaces) gold plated, or karat gold 14k,18k. Look inside the case back and you will see some words to the effect "guaranteed 25 years",or 15 years or a variation of that. That is a general guide of how thick the gold was on a filled case when new. Karat will be stated as 14k, 18k, etc.

The movement will be identified by the serial number on the movement itself. The numbers are sequential and thus will tell the year manufactured give or take a few years. It will also tell the grade or specific model design of the movement. Next is jewel count, That also should be on the movement.

Tell me those numbers and I can give you the age and aproximate value.

Mine is just a 1908, 17 jewel model...nothing fancy. It belonged to my great-grandfather (worked on the railroad), and was passed down to me when I had my son.

porksboy: I have an old Waltham that was my grandfather's. It's S/N 23846035, which according to teh int3erwebs should put it at about 1921, it makes no mention of jewels on the movement. It's in fair condition (it was his everyday watch) but does not work and for sentimental reasons I have no intention of selling it. Just wondering if the S/N really puts it at 1921. Also, you think you could get it going for me?
