Not sure why I find this story so great, but it makes me smile like a goon when I read it.
I saw that news story yesterday, it is remarkable they were able to recover any of it a century after it was tossed in the river.
It turns out there's a whole hobby based around digging in the rivers and canals over there to find things. The people who do it are called mudlarks. Not surprisingly a lot of the stuff they find is just junk that was tossed in the water in recent times but they do find some neat old stuff from time to time. I've seen videos from several of them on YouTube.
What's more shocking is that he was looking for it specifically and actually found it, and fairly quickly too.
Thanks, I enjoyed that read. I grew up in the print industry and my first "real" job was as a typesetter.
This is a wild story.
Guy gets mad at his business partner, dumps his stuff in a river, and about a century later, some guy looks for AND finds a bunch of said stuff.
Thanks for sharing this!

Agreed. It's a really cool story I would not have seen otherwise so thanks for posting. And like O2pilot said, crazy that he found it so quick. The disgruntled partner must have written down a really precise entry in his diary for that day!
Agreed, cool thread. I learned to typeset on an old Linotype we borrowed after-hours time on back in the early days of the magazine, when we couldn't afford to pay to have our type set, and have been fascinated with the craft ever since. And Doves is a beautiful typeface.

The man has an obsession with that font, though.
What would be *really* funny is if he got scuba certified just to go look for it.
My next vacation to London will definitely include a mudlarking tour. I have been obsessed with it for a decade now.
