Anybody have any recommendations for learning piano, other than the obvious necessity to practice? I don't have free funds for a teacher, so am looking for something I can teach myself.

Although I would love to eventually learn Clair de Lune, outside of that, I have zero interest in classical. I'd like to initially learn how to play 3 to 6 chord songs of modern music.

Any advice on this?

There are some apps out there.  You put the tablet where the sheet music would be and follow along.  The tablet listens to what you play.

My kid and wife have played around with an app called SimplyPiano

No specifics other than to find a good teacher. I played drums and guitar growing up and always regretted not learning how to play the piano.

Now I just have too many hobbies to try to learn it, much less even just learning to read sheet music. Hell I have 5 guitars I barely touch.

I bought my kids an organ from Costco years ago that lit up the keys when it was time to press them.

Within a week or so, they were doing a good job with a number of songs.

Besides, tulips on an organ is classier than roses on a piano.

Do you need a piano? I know someone giving one away...

If you get a Baldwin piano, some songs just come easily...

I wonder if you could find someone willing to trade lessons? A piano teacher that wants to learn guitar? Or maybe their kid does? Might be worth looking into.

Think he will deliver it, in undestroyed condition?

How do you approach playing guitar now?

I play 99% by ear. Guitar, piano, dulcimer...whatever. I read music when I absolutely have to. If you can hear a song and learn it by ear on guitar or other instruments , I'd be happy to spend an hour on zoom or FaceTime with you to get you started with piano.

Also, there are a lot of free pianos out there. That's real. But get one with keys that don't stick, pedals that work and stays in tune or you will be quickly trying to kick that keyboard down the road yourself out of frustration and lack of inspiration.
My 2 cents.
