Still going through my parents estate stuff and coming across a lot of old books.  We have a couple even from the 1700s.  Hard to really judge the value of a book, I've checked ebay for a couple but some I don't have any luck finding any others like them.  They aren't in the best condition but I would think to a book collector they still may have some what of a value.  Anyone here collect or know a good site to reach out to?

I have a "collection" of books, some old, most not.  Still, I do not consider myself a "collector" of books.

I would suggest that a list of titles and authors might be fun for some of us.

Ebay if you have the time to list each book singly.

Around here, any donations to the county library are automatically put on the "sell for $1.00" rack.  None are pulled into the collection, no matter how rare or desirable.

I have no idea whether they're a particularly good (or bad) place to sell, but our local famous bookseller, Powell's, does some rare and interesting collection stuff.

I figure the "who do I ask further questions of" info here would be one decent place to try if you don't get better answers.

You might also check abebooks.

I checked the Powell's books, they are very strict with condition as I probably would be as well if I collected books.

Unless you can locate a bookseller who is willing to look at the books "as found," the first thing you need before you start any conversations is a list, including title, author, publisher, year it was printed, what edition or printing it is (if the title page tells you) and a rough description of its condition.  Making the list will be a pain, but it's the difference between "box of car parts" and "3 SU carburetors, model XXX, need cleaning."  You get the idea.

Once you have your list, I'd call the closest good university and talk to the librarian.  (The boss, or as close as you can get, not the student at the front desk.)  They may not want anything you have, but you can bet they're plugged into the "book enthusiast" community in the area.

Good luck!  PM me if you want; I'm going through the same situation with books from my grandfather.

I have a ton of old books and magazines , yeah 2000 pounds or more ,

No one really want them and if you take them to a flea market people do not respect them and you end up with torn covers etc ,

Ebay etc is just a bad paying job ,   but if you can find someone to put them on a website with a picture ., number of pages and author maybe you could post that somewhere ,

Most of mine are automotive  and machining ,  so they are going to my buddies shop as a lunch library for his younger workers to thumb thru.......hopefully it gives them some ideas , or laughs of the stupid things we did in 1970s Street Rodder !
