Time to make bunk beds in an alcove in the kids' room. The space in question really only lends itself to either a full on the bottom/twin on top or twin over twin, as far as I can tell. Just figure y'all intelligent ladies and gentlemen may have some good details/ideas before I just screw two by four ledgers to the walls and put a post on the other corner.

That's a nice, deep recess for the beds. When we had bunk beds for my boys I had to add shelves on the wall for them to put the stuff they wanted near their beds. Reading light, books, water bottle, LEGO sets.
I'd consider moving the beds 12" from the window wall and putting in some sort of built-in book shelves. Leave the window area open of course, but put a shelf there for stuff. Pretty much make your bed platforms a foot wider than necessary and add stuff from there.

I've seen some, uh, documentaries featuring this idea
Children's bunk beds, gentlemen... Children!
