Not so. Thats just what they thought then. See any Pro Stock cars jacked up like that? And they're going a lot faster.

Pre-1968, the slicks had stiff sidewalls. In order to improve the traction, the cars were raised in order to get the CG up and make it easier to pitch rotate the cars onto the back tires. And because the cars had to retain a stock body, gas powered, early on street legal, and a handful to drive...they were popular with the fans. After 68, the cars were lowered, had more modern bodies and the funny cars showed up. The straight axle cars capture a period of time between 63 and 67.

why wouldn't there be better weight transfer? higher center of gravity...

pro stock cars are a just a smidge faster, if they sat that high they would take flight. and they arent based upon (likely) front heavy street cars.

meh. more than one way to skin a cat.

sweet. i took the "no looking back now" step of cutting out the entire firewall and floor the other day. so the car is a bare floorless shell mounted to the chassis now. i'm going to finish weld the frame and do roll bar, engine/trans mounts, and under floor brake setup before i do most of the floor.

meh. the malibu does nothing for me, too new to look right.

my gasser is sad. everything broke at once so it has been sitting for a couple months. i got the engine mounted then all hell broke loose with my vehicles, so it's neglected. i actually worked on it last weekend - i bolted a door on to get it out of the way. apparently i did an awesome job of pulling the sag out of the body when i built the chassis and the body mounts, because the door closes perfectly. the openings were a little squishy as was the trunk opening from the body sitting with crappy floors on a dolly supporting only the floors for who knows how long.

That straight axled G-body is too awesome for words.

Kinda sticks it in the face of the slammed conestoga-wheeled Pro Touring crap.

Funny background event: The XR4Ti has a bad turbo.
