The is only a few buildings down from the shop I used to work at and I lived in the neighborhood directly west of the explosion. Really glad I'm not still there. Talked to a couple people that still live in the neighboorhood and they basically said the houses are destroyed.

That would definitely be worth counting your blessings.
I'm just wondering what went up. Due to work I know a little bit more than the average person about what happened at Holston Army Ammo plant last year, and from everything I'm reading the distance that this was heard/felt isnt horribly far off from what happened there.

I think it was likely Thano's returning the universe to balance. Our neighborhood made it through Hurrican Harvey basically untouched so it was due. Thankfully there weren't more people killed. Lots of kids live in this neighborhood and it's literally a couple hundred yards from a park.
