I hit the wrong key and can't fix the title!!! Anyways, I need to exercise and decided that biking would suit the bill. I'm thinking of building a recumbent bike,. I've got plans and it's certainly within my skillset. Any pros and cons before I start?

Conspicuity. Bicyclists are small enough, and recumbents are usually lower. The trick will be being seen without ruining your aerodynamics.

Are you concerned about riding a recumbent or building a bike?

I see a fair amount of recumbent bikes around Minneapolis, and the guys I've talked to who own them really like them. If you're worried about visibility, mount a big orange flag on a stick on back. :)

A guy rides by the office all the time in a recumbent bicycle with full bodywork. It looks like a weird little car.

How about a recumbent rail car?
