My family used to go tent camping and after having episodes like the Calvin cartoon above, my dad bought a shack in the woods with no power, no electricity, and no running water. It's like camping but without the sucky parts. Now, however, we have solar panels and directv but still no running water. But we still don't have any neighbors...

• Self inflating bedroll for under sleeping bag
• hunks of raw meat

• hiking poles
• 55 gallon drum of DEET
• smartphone with geo-caching app

• a grumpy woman who complains a lot

There are some homeless dudes living in one under the onramp bridge a few miles from here.

I went winter camping with my 12 year old a few weeks ago, like I used to do when I was 12. It was fun. Build an igloo, ice fish, start a fire with one match(he's better than me, because I always needed a box full).

But we were coming back pretty proud of ourselves the next day, and we stopped at a Timmys for a coffee and a hot chocolate, and beside the Timmy's was an old construction shack up on blocks, and out from under it was coming a homeless guy on his way to get HIS coffee, and it kind of took the wind out of my sails. I was just doing it for fun....
