I had a skateboard as a kid but it didn't take. Mini-me wants one for Christmas. He's 6-8 years old, super fit shape, and very athletic. Seriously I may need to build a ninja warrior course soon instead of skateboard stuff. Lol

But he wants a board and I see lots of different ones. Idk if it will really take and he will be doing kick flips and Ollies, but I'm not sure what to get.

To summarize the previous thread: you want him to learn on a proper board.

It is very worthwhile to support a local skate shop, and they can do a lot to help you pick a good first board. If you don't want to spend $100 on a board because you're not sure he'll stick with it, you can find plenty of used boards with good equipment on Craigslist for $20-$40. Find some you think maybe look good, and post them up here to ask questions. Or look for ones that list name brands for parts and do a quick google search. If the parts all show up as brands that are carried by skateboard-specific shops, they are probably good.

If you can get in touch with an indoor or other privately owned park, they will likely have loaner boards he can try out and may give lessons or be able to connect you with someone who does.

You'll need to log in to post.
