A good friend of mine has a basement full of "stuff" picked from the local thrift stores. He's been into re-selling for a long while and is pretty knowledgeable about it, however his time recently is devoted to another business venture and he hasn't gotten around to listing anything on Ebay in a long while. He has proposed that I should list and ship the stuff, and that we'll divide the profits 50/50. Sounds good to me, since I have no money involved, and we both get free packaging materials from our common place of employment. But there is enough stuff that I do not expect to be able to fly under the radar tax-wise. So I am asking: Are there any special tricks to dividing tax liability between two "business partners?"

Not a tax dude.

How much are you talking here? $500, $5,000, or $50,000? If it were me I would probably just file it at the end of the year under miscellaneous income. does your friend actually have a business or is he just doing this on the side? If he does have a business I would ask for him to give you a 1099 at the end of the year and you can file as an independent contractor. And then you would get to write off the mileage to and from his house at 55c a mile

He thinks there's $10,000+. What you're saying is pretty much what I have been thinking. I was afraid there may be something I'm missing.
