Any trademark people in here?

I'm trying to help Grandpa get a trademark for something that was once trademarked and is no longer. The original company has been dead for 25+ years and the TM is listed as "Dead" on the registry. The paperwork only accounts for new TM's. I know new companies re-use old company's names all the time, so how the heck do they do it?

Get in touch with Legal Zoom. I trademarked my company name and logo and that's who I used. I think it cost about $700.
