Besides standing outside the dealership and offering someone $4500 cash with no paperwork for the obviously overpriced cars-what are some ways to make this thing work for us?

The government has seen to strictly cut us out. There is no way we can take advantage or it...

Pull a Black Panther and stand around dealerships intimidating people trying to clunker trade cool cars?

It is a real shame so many cool vehicles are being destroyed by this program.

We won't benefit, except for the influx of new cars into junkyards. But most of them are Explorers and turds that the junkyards were already filled with. The people who will benefit are the people that had their E36 M3ty Explorer transmissions explode and haven't been able to find one cheap. They will be plentiful soon.

Any examples? I was under the impression that many cool vehicles weren't.

Well on the other CFC thread on this site there was mention of a nice low mileage Bronco, plus a picture of a clean 85 Mustang GT. Not to mention the video of the Volvo S80, which may not be cool, but is still way too nice a car IMO to be destroyed.

i think we'll be able to take advantage of it shortly after the program ends...

as someone mentioned on here... the sub $500 car market on CL has about dried up... everyone is buying cheap POS's to trade in without any research... isn't there something about it having to be owned/registered for at least 1 year before the trade in or something...

when it's all over people who bought in trying to make a quick buck will turn around and get rid of them when they find they aren't worth anything for the C4C program... or so I hope.

Hmmm-will the program encourage people to buy vehicles they cant afford, and then default? We could have some good repo or get out from under payment deals on barely used cars.

Yes there is, but I thought the car had to be owned for two, and registered for the last year. However, who is checking on this? How are the dates to be proved? Is it as simple as signing on the dotted line "swearing" that you are elligible?

The car has to be registered and insured under your name for one year to take advantage of Cash 4 Clunkers.

The entire E30 line up is listed as eligible for C4C, including the M3.

True, but so you really think anyone is stupid enough to sell an M3 for $4500?

just b/c something is on the list doesn't mean someone will trade it in. the '04 RX-8 is on the list as well, but i doubt people will be trading them in on Yarises. for the most part they are the aforementioned turds.

I thought the cash for clunkers would NOT end up in junkyards. I thought parts could be removed but shell and drivetrain had to be crushed.

Yeah sadly a guy on another forum I go to works for a dealer and is having to destroy some of these cars. An LT1 Camaro, 5.0 Fox Mustang and a 454 Chevy truck have already gone under in his shop.

Todays deaths:

1998 Ford Ranger Extended cab 4x4 4.0L manual

1996 Ford Windstar 3.0L

1994 Chevrolet Lumina 3.1L sedan

2002 Chrysler Sebring V6 auto coupe (the trans is technically bad but they DID drive it in)

2000 Cadillac DeVille 4.6L Northstar

1992 Chevrolet K1500 5.7L auto (unbelievably rusty)

The best part of this program is taking part in the murder of 5 cars simultaneously. The Northstar did surprisingly well.

I was kinda sad to learn that these cars were going to be killed BEFORE they got to me. I figured if someone has to kill them, it might as well be me. No dice, they get taken out before they leave the dealerships.

True, but it takes an EXTREMELY rare breed of stupid to trade in an M3 to get a $4500 credit on a Prius, instead of just selling it for twice that amount.

Really, if there was some way for the better cars to be auctioned off or whatever, it wouldnt be so bad. I doubt many people will miss a windstar with a slipping transmission, or a rusted out 86 chevy pickup with a 305, but its all of the low mileage older cars that get turned in just becasue its an old car and its too much hassle to sell it (like the mustang and land cruiser in the other thread, and some others) that are in good enough shape to be worth at least $2-3k and would have lasted for a long time if someone had kept driving them that make this progam really unfortunate (as long as you ignore the issue of who is paying for thr whole thing).

I saw a story on another board about someone who brought in an e34 M5. It wasn't totally clear, but it sounded like instead of taking it as a clunker, the dealer gave them $4500 cash for the car and kept it.

When I was at my local U-pull-it, I had over heard one guy ask about some "new" trucks sitting in the prossesing area. Employee responded that the engines cant be sold... I wonder if those came in under C4C?
